HBO’s Insecure has become a weekly watching ritual for many black women, and we were happy to find that the show has been renewed for a second season!
The cast is lead by Issa Rae, playing a fictional version of herself, and Yvonne Orji, who plays Issa’s best friend Molly. In the 6 episodes that have aired so far, we’ve come to know and love Molly as a smart, no-nonsense, very sexually active corporate lawyer who doesn’t always make the best relationship decisions. But in real life, there is a huge difference between Yvonne and her character Molly — Yvonne has never had sex, and hasn’t even masturbated. She discussed her virginity on The Breakfast Club.
Charlamagne: In my research of you I found out you’re a virgin
Yvonne: True story
Charlamagne: And you a hoe on the show? Okay, not hoe…
Yvonne: She not a hoe!
Charlamagne: Sexually free
After this Yvonne clarified, to the shocked radio hosts, that she has never had oral or anal sex, or even masturbated.
Charlamagne: You ever played with yourself?
Yvonne: No actually I don’t.
Angela Yee: You’re a masturbation virgin also?
DJ Envy: You have never masturbated? You lie!
Yvonne: I promise you.
Charlamagne then asks how people know she is a virgin, and Yvonne responds that it’s not something she hides.
“I don’t hide it… the same way people know somebody had a one night stand. It’s like you can say that and I can say no absolutely I haven’t.”
When asked if she wants to masturbate, Yvonne says no, but that she “absolutely” wants to have sex, especially after filming sex scenes on Insecure.
So how did Yvonne make it 32 years as a virgin? She made the choice after becoming a Christian.
“I had plans to have sex by the time I turned 18. I knew the dude it was on and popping… I had it figured out and then I got to college when I was 17… And then I got saved at 17.”
You can hear the entire exchange, including how Orji discusses her virginity with prospective boyfriends, from 1:25 to 8:30.

I enjoy her as an actress on Insecure I love the hair and clothes for her character. She reminds me of Toni Childs from Girlfriends.
I don’t understand why some women are mad that she is still a virgin.
The fact that she is a virgin don’t make you a lesser women.
A women is valuable virgin or not.
Don’t be mad at her.
I found this thread late. Here is my beef. Why is it celebrated that a man or woman 10 years their sexual prime is still a virgin.
Seems like remaining a virgin is going against the nature that God gave you which makes little to no sense.
Is it really God’s will you get old, unattractive, and not able to bear children because you wanted to wait until 50 to have sex.
I just want to know how and why is her sexual history anybody’s business??? For the life of me, first of all, I can’t understand why he would form his mouth to ask her something so personal. And two, why she would entertain the question?? Why is the fact that she has never had sex anyone’s business except her own. Why do these young people feel this need to share every damn thing under the sun. Things that would get you slapped years ago are not just freely discussed like the weather. Call me old school, but I don’t get it.
I’m glad she shared it but I don’t like how it was shared. They shouldn’t have brought it up. It was distasteful. It’s definitely good for younger people and women out there to know that it’s okay to wait. I waited a long time myself and I got teased like hell for it.
One would have to ask Orji herself why it’s anyone’s business–not for nothing, but nobody would have known unless she put it out there at some point…because, why not? She gave me the impression that she has nothing to be ashamed of so why not discuss it? The presence or lack of virginity seems to be a hot topic in this sex-fueled society–I admire her for being candid about it in a way that shows she’s confident about her decision.
it was shared bc her character on the show is so sexually free. so it was more so how does her personal life compare to her character. all actors/actresses get asked how much they relate to their character. in her case, in that aspect, she differs drastically bc she is a virgin
