Introduce yourself!
S: My name is Shamekia and I am originally from Shreveport, Louisiana but I live in Montgomery, Alabama.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
S: I decided to go natural due to severely damaged hair and the need for something new in my life mentally and physically. I wore extensions for years and did not take care of my own hair. I big chopped with my husband’s clippers and a prayer. It was one of the BEST days of my life!!! I have been natural for 3 years.
How would you describe your texture?
S: My texture is a mixture of 4c/4b and my strands are very delicate and somewhat thin (in my opinion). My hair is easy to manage, but it took some dedication and patience to find what worked.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
S: I protective style very often because of convenience and to retain as much length as possible. As far as products go, I have literally tried everything. I change products so often, but this is what I am using right now: Bio-Infusion Curly Pomade and sesame oil to seal my ends. My go-to for super moisture is Hawaiian Silky Gel Activator. It’s heavy and holds moisture until wash day.
What does wash day look like for you?
S: Co-wash with VO5 Conditioner followed by Yes to Carrots Conditioner then Shea Moisture Conditioning Mask or old school Cholesterol Conditioner (for deep conditioning).
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
S: Updo styles are my favorite! Large flat twists pinned up or tuck and pin styles are what I wear to work. I love to put flowers in my hair as accents and loose clips.
How do you combat shrinkage?
S: I stretch my hair with large plastic rollers or use the tension method with my blow dryer on a cool setting.
Tell us about your hair color?
S: My natural hair color is dark brown. It is very resistant to color so I don’t do it often. My current bronze streak I did myself and I have not noticed any change in texture. I used Textures & Tones and the color was actually a blonde color 🙂 I have also used Henna for its conditioning properties and only noticed a tint around my edges.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
S: Dryness is my problem. 4b/4c hair is prone to dryness so I am constantly looking for different ways to keep my hair moisturized.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
S: Moisture and protective styling
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
S: Excessive heat and poor detangling methods
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
S: www.theearringloft.com where I create handcrafted earrings.

WOW,you look so beautiful
Valuable information. Lucky me I found your site unintentionally, and I am surprised why this accident didn’t came about in advance! I bookmarked it.
She is pretty! Where can you find Biofusion?
Using plastic rollers for stretching. I’ll be trying that out soon. With my 4b hair, I’m always looking for ways to keep it stretched!
I have 4a hair and like you my favorite product is Hawaiian Silky Curl Activator (HSCA). As the product junkie that I am, I have tried several products, from the most $ to the least $. While I like Kinky Curly Curling Custard (KKCC) – combined with Kinky Curly Knot Today-, I find that HSCA gives me the same curl definition but without the crunch. Also, it is so moisturizing and I don’t need to use anything else. Plus it is about $4 compared to the $16+ or so for KKCC. Your hair lools georgous.
I keep trying to tell folks about Biofusion!! its all that in a bag of chips loll LOVE IT!
Finally! My hair twin! We have the (almost) exact same texture. Your hair is gorgeous! I have been natural now for 2 years. My hair looks like yours in a twist out, but I have to twist it right back up every night to protect the ends(learned this the hard way)–I have to be oh so careful with my ends…seeing your luscious locks gives me hope. Nice to see comments from other 4c/b hair divas/icons too. In another year, I hope my hair is as long as yours is now. Keep up the good work;-)

she’s gorgeous, like a doll.
I love your styles. You should definitely have a YouTube channel.
Thank you for showing this gorgeous 4c/b, it gives me hope for my 4c/b twa. 🙂
Wow lovely and so good to see another 4b/c around here. I agree about the dryness factor with this hair type and I would love to know how she finds styling with this density as I have the same density and struggle to style it.
My hair is the exact same texture and density. The best way to style for me is to keep my hair in its stretched state. If you keep it stretched getting those styles like hers aren’t hard. This hair type get tangly easy too so I have to find a lot of styles that I can leave in for a few days at a time like pinned up twist up dos. I save the out styles for a few times a month. Only advice I can give on dryness is to moisturize twice a day.
I’m thinking of trying threading to gain more length to play with. At the moment I only do twists. Thanks for the advice and yes tangles make me fear out styles as well as the fact that this hair type thrives when left alone in a PS.
You’re incredible; Congratulations on being BGLH spotlight!
