Disney’s first black princess was a long overdue addition to their roster but many noticed that her hair was tied back or pinned back — the ENTIRE movie. This is a wild departure from other Disney princesses, who spend good chunks (and sometimes all) of their movies with their hair down. The team over at Buzzfeed reimagined what Princess Tiana would look like had she worn her hair down throughout the film and the results were curly (albeit wavy) cute.

why even try to critique herjust leave her be, i never see anyone critiquing the white princesses but the second a black one comes out its lets see what she looks like with her hair natural and more “black” looking, just leave her be, its irritating
Seeing this actually brought tears to my eyes. Not seeing a black princess never bother me before…but I guess it did.
because white people don’t really intermix as much so in the US, they have a surprisingly low degree of admixture if any

I always believed Tiana’s hair was a reflection of the time. In the 20’s a lot of black women pressed their hair and wore it in finger waves, pinned up or back. Oprah’s character (tiara’s mama) wore her’s that way. Plus Tiana was working in a restaurant. Who wants all that powdered sugar from those beignets in their hair? LOL.

Wrong, most black people have admixture in the USA. But the degree is varying. If someone looks like they have admixture, then it’s because they’re admixture is on the higher end where it would be expressed through phenotype.
I believe this movie may have came out shortly of just at the beginning of the natural hair movement so I can understand why Disney created her like that. The drawings are very pretty anyway. The artist did a good job.
I hated that the one black princess had to be a damn animal almost the whole movie. #shady

With good reason. It seems a lot of their animations starring minorities have them as animals for the majority of the films. This one, Brother Bear, The Emperor’s New Groove…
Don’t forget Lion King.
Those movies are about characters who turned into animals.

They should have use the original drawings with her wild Afro curly hair .
