Beautician Sparks Skin Tone Debate with "Beauty Has No Color" Hashtag

A few days ago, fashion designer and beautician, Kat Bahadur, posted a photo of herself wearing multiple foundation shades in a very artistic way. In one of the photos she stated that if God gave her any shade, she’d rock it.

In subsequent makeup photos where half of Bahadur’s face is dark and the other half is light, she encouraged everyone to see the beauty in every skin tone and accept what everyone has to offer. She then challenged other makeup artists to take a stand and push the hash tag, #beautyhasnocolor, to the forefront. As a result, the Bahadur’s photos went viral and people began to comment on her bold statement.

Bahadur may have been expecting a different response, but the photos have since become controversial with people having varying opinions. Some believe that the photo below pits light skinned women against dark skinned women. Some believe that by stating “beauty has no color”, you are essentially trying to erase one’s culture. Others accused the artist of “white face” because if a white woman took the same artistic freedom, then she’d get accused of black face.

Although everyone seems to have an opinion, (some valid and some not so much,) Bahadur’s message is very clear. She simply wants all skin tones to be treated as equal because your skin tone doesn’t define who you. She’s frustrated with race being a competition and wants the world to stop causing unnecessary hurt. Fortunately, Bahadur’s words didn’t fall on deaf ears. Other makeup artists, of varying racial backgrounds and skin tones, took her challenge and are trying to push her message. Be on the lookout for Bahadur’s video explaining why she’s choosing to see beauty without color. Until then, take a look at the other artists who joined her.
