Representation matters for our little black girls. Just yesterday we posted about Viola Davis’ daughter Genesis wanting to dress as her for Halloween. Today we learned that little black girls dressed as Rihanna’s character Tip from the Dreamworks movie Home. Home is the studio’s first film featuring a black character and it was a smash hit at the box office.
This is absolutely adorable. Check it out…
We love this!
You featured my daughter with her Slushious car! Thank you!
Representation matters because we form part of our identity through imagery, whether it’s a fairy tale book or a movie. Imagining people who look like us acheiving, falling in love, being fragile or innovating is critical in what we believe we can do or be. I am so happy that little black girl have so many more icons to choose from and that little white girls are idolizing them too! This normalizes black representation with everyone.
This is adorable. Black Girls Rock!!!

Awww, thank you. That is my daughter at the top and her name is Anyla 🙂
