R: My name is Romance (Hey Curlie) and I am from Cleveland, Ohio.
Did you transition or big chop? Share your natural hair journey with us!
R: I did the BIG CHOP on November 1, 2011. I have been natural for 3 yrs and I LOVE every bit of it. Its been a very interesting and exciting journey. I’ve learned to embrace my natural hair texture by being creative and versatile.
How would you describe your texture?
R: I have a mixture of textures in my head; I have 3c in the front and 4c in the nape of my head which is dense. My hair has its moments, it can be happy and fierce and others days it will be frizzy and unmanageable.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month, and the rationale behind your various styling decisions.
R: I always use the LCO Method.
During styling I use:
Leave-in conditioner (cream based) such as “Eden Body Works Shea Coconut” or Soultanicals Knot Sauce
For my perm/flexi rod sets: Lottabody setting lotion ( used as a leave-in)
Cream moisturizer: Soultanicals Fluffalicious or Honey Chile Hair Love LushCurl Custard
Oil: Anu Naturals Carrot Sealing Oil
What does wash day look like for you?
R: My wash day is an 8 hr process, literally. Lol.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
R: My favorite go-to style is a flat twist crown. Simple and Elegant.
How do you combat shrinkage?
R: I don’t combat shrinkage, I embrace it. (I am a lover, not a fighter…lol)
Tell us about your hair color.
R: I’ve been blonde and I am currently red. I did seek a professional for my blonde and I recently did a red rinse over my blonde for the fall. My hair texture has not changed due to my permanent color.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require extra care and attention?
R: My problem area is my crown, I did experience a little heat damage but I am currently on my #heycurlienoheat challenge which is six months no heat (no blow dryer, hooded dryer or flat iron) I am able to give my hair extra TLC during this time and retain length.
