5 Companies That’ll Make You Want to Wrap Your Hair at Night

Avatar • Oct 27, 2014

We all know that protecting our hair at night is an essential step to growing and maintaining strong, beautiful natural hair. But 100% cotton bandanas draw out the moisture from your hair, doorags leave indentations on your forehead, and beauty supply storescarves never ever stay on… especially when you’re trying to sleep in rollers, rods, or Curlformers. And while satin pillowcases get the job done in terms of overnight hair protection, there are certain times — such as when we’re deep conditioning overnight, when we don’t want to risk our perfect twist out, or when we want our bed to be Pinterest-worthy sans random black “satin” pillowcase from the beauty supply store — when a good old hair bonnet is necessary. Keep your natural hair stylish while you sleep with these super fly bonnets and wraps made by and for fellow naturalistas!

Pretty AnntoiNet’s

Do you like to feel sexy while you sleep? Then Pretty AnntoiNet’s Silk Hair Lingerie is perfect for you! The brand’s signature products are made from 100% dupion, charmeuse, mulberry or habutai silk. Pretty AnntoiNet offers hair wraps with velcro clasps that can be worn day and night, silk knit beanies that can be worn to sleep, under wigs or under hats, bonnets for medium length hair, adjustable sleep caps for longer hair, loc tubes and an innovative silk lined hooded jersey knit scarf.
Ebonnets by Ebonicurls

Ebonicurls’ Ebonnets are handmade with quality satin or doubled line with Charmeuse satin, just like the pillowcases, scrunchies, scarves, and turbans that the company carries. According the the founder, the charmeuse satin is vastly different from the nylon/satin in beauty supply store products, and provides optimum retention of the hairs natural oils along with providing additional moisture on your hairs delicate strands. The Ebonnets are large enough to fit over most types of natural hairstyles, even your biggest afro, and the drawstrings help the bonnet stay on — if you need even more space, try the bouffant Ebonnets, which are perfect for braids and similar protective styles.
My Crowning Jewel

For those of you who wince at the word bonnet, My Crowning Jewel has revolutionized feeling pretty while you sleep with their line of head wraps that can be worn day and night. The family owned company combined the adjustability of a scarf and the secure coverage of a bonnet in their uniquely designed “jewels” that come in either silk or satin. Their signature nighttime jewel can be tied in many different ways, accommodating all kinds of sleepers — and it comes in princess (kids) sizing as well!

Sharmooz

With a brand name that plays on charmeuse satin that it uses for its accessories, Sharmooz has expanded from just making hair accessories to also creating dresses, jumpsuits, and custom gowns. Sharmooz’ “Not Your Mother’s” Satin Bonnet comes in four variations — an adjustable, stay-on bonnet for girls, the original bonnet, an extra-large bonnet, and a double-sided bonnet and a reversible waterproof shower cap. Sharmooz also makes wraps, pillowcases and a cool beauty cover that is a mix between a satin bonnet and a fitted bed sheet, except that it goes right over your pillow (seems great for travel!).

Flor Bella Boutique

If you want to ensure that you’ve got a one of a kind sleeping accessory, head over to Flor Bella boutique for one of their handmade, custom bonnets, scarves, and shower caps made from charmeuse satin. While the print and solid color options are endless, it’s the Doc McStuffins child’s bonnet that steals the show — it comes in either “that’ll cost you a hug” or “got cuddles?” colors!

Where do you get your nighttime hair protection items from? Do you make a point to use real 100% satin or silk?

I love my satin scarf but I can totally get down with the crowning jewel line. There’s nothing sexy about going to bed looking like strawberry shortcake lol

I have always been a bonnet wearer but have found Florbella and Ebonicurls to be a bit too pricey. I needed a bonnet not only for myself but for my 2 little girls so paying close to $150 for 3 bonnets was not gonna happen. LOL I found naturalhairshop.com after reading the Natural Hair Kids blog and find those to be a bit better due to the larger selection of kids designs and the price was easier on my pockets!

Thanks for this! Someone had recommended a woman who made bonnets for longer hair, and I lost the link! I’ve tried several times to find someone else, and have come up short. Now I have some to try out!

I am a supporter of black-owned businesses as long as the prices and products are reasonable. Anything over $15 for a bonnet is not reasonable and they want $30+. Those bonnets are not going to make that much difference on my hair than the $3.50 bonnets I wear now. They are really trying it.

It’s the cost of the fabric you’re paying for. Those $3.50 bonnets are made with cotton which is proven to be harmful to natural hair. It also depends on how large you want the bonnet and if you want a custom pattern. It really is worth it in the long run and Ebonicurls has a warranty on her bonnets. So you can buy one quality bonnet once or the same $3.50 bonnet every two to three months.

I also like the bonnets, scarves & scrunchies from Bonbon Cheveaux. I definitely need to check out some of these wraps & whatnot because I like having other options besides bonnets & the mushroom head look is not segzy for bedtime!

wow, who knew hair bonnets can look this nice. I use a silk scarf at night, as the satin bonnets i use to use were uncomfortable

The only thing I dislike about the first company is that she only does PayPal. I don’t really feel comfortable using PayPal. I’d rather it just be a third party company that takes debit cards

Wow, I love the Crowning Jewel bonnets and I will be buying one very soon. Thanks for sharing!

I think you left out an important one. The Dreadsock! It comes in different sizes to accommodate different lengths of hair and lots of different colors. It is advertised for dreadlocks but it works great on my natural hair. Love this product!

Those are so pretty! Right now, I am in love with my cap from Stay On Satin. It’s no more than $2 and does the job. I did a review on it not too long ago. http://withmycoils.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-best-darn-night-cap-your-momma.html
