Early this morning Sanaa Lathan took to her Facebook page to post a picture of her hair sans-weave with the caption
And the weave is out! #yesihaveALOTofhair #sandybrown #ineedatrim #ilovemyscalp
Cute! Lots of hair must run in the family, because we know Sanaaโs mama definitely has it.
Knew this was going to show up on BGLH. Sooooo predictable. Iโm only surprised the usual question was posted, โWhat do you all think?โ SMFH
Yet you went out of your way to click on the postโฆ
Yes I did. To post MY comment. Just as you went out your way to reply to what I posted. SMH Sorry I didnโt post something for your pleasure today. Maybe next timeโฆNOT
And like clockwork here you are again Mel making the same type of comments. Sooooo predictable.
Ahm, what type of comment is that? Have you ever seen a negative post from me on this blog or any other? Get your facts straightโฆor did you just feel like jumping on the bandwagon today? SMH and LMAO
โSMH, LMAOโ I bet you use emoticons in off line conversations too Mel? โSMHโ :-):-V ๐ o_O :-/ B-)
@mel, This is a HAIR BLOG, why wouldnโt it be predictable that they would post a hair picture of a celebrity?
Why do people wear weaves when she got all that beautiful hair, donโt know if its natural or not but its still better than wearing somebody else hair.
She may want to protect her hair from the rough handling of different stylists and constantly having to be polished for events and things
@ faith, wigs are FUNโฆa person can change them any time, different styles, colors, cuts and lengthsโฆsometimes the change of look perks you upโฆlike different color lipstick or nail polishโฆgo to the BSS and try one on to see; you might like it ๐
I havenโt worn a wig yet, but if I did it was to give my hair a rest. I love protective styles, the help the hair grow faster and healthier.
so true
Faith, its just a choice. If youโve ever worn a weave, youโll know its not always about length. Its also about conveience. No nightly maintenance, you hair is always โstyledโ and in a cut. You donโt have to worry about humidity, etc. I have natural, thick, 4A, APL hair, and I wear a sew-in on a from time to time.
Well, at least she learned from others and gave a frontal pic. ๐
#shrug #dontreallycare #stillafan
aww Mel seems so crankyโฆ lol could take or leave the hair, but Sanaaโs skin looks great!
Oh dear, far from cranky. This is a public forum and I can say whatever I please. Whether you or anyone else likes what I have to say. Toodles :o)
Mel woke up on the wrong side of the bed :โ(
Why do people judge those who have hair but choose to wear weave at times? Statements like โ she has beautiful hair why does she wear weave?โ irk me. Why do you go to the mall and choose the type of clothes you choose? Because you like them right? Some people like the versatility that wearing weave offersโฆ Long today โฆ Short tommorrowโฆ Curly the next day. Also, if someone with long hair wanted to achieve versatile styles theyโd have to apply extreme heat and excessive tension then they wouldnโt have long, healthy hair anymore. So please pause with the… Read more »
I think itโs mostly because the priginal intention of weaves was to add length it was mstly used by people who have very short hair and had a desire for it grow overnigh (if you know what I mean).
Very well stated, Sunshine! This is another perspective for all the natural anti-weave wearers. When I did the big chop, length retention didnโt enter my mind because I just enjoyed this new experience of being natural. Long natural hair wasnโt really a thought until I found YouTube hair vloggers and blogs like this. Then I became interested in length retention. During that time, I let other people and their actions influence me into thinking that weaves and extensions were to be avoided if you wanted to be truly natural and learn how to take care of your own naked hair.… Read more »
@Faith: some just because they like it, like we all have our own things that we like that people question. Some for convenience, and some for protective styling. Iโve never been a fan of weave, but after moving to a colder climate with harsh winters, my scalp has some serious issues. I will definetly be investing in weave options that will cover and protect my scalp for this coming winter.
Whatโs with the negative comments??? BGLH has a timid useful information and great commentaries. If you donโt like it donโt look at it. Itโs really that simple.
*timid should be ton.
I have a lot of hair, and itโs a little longer than the beautiful Sanaaโs.โฆhey I wear extensions or weaves sometimes. Lately Iโve been rocking all natural, but I really do despise when people judge others for wearing weaves. Itโs just catty in my opinion. It looks good with or without. Sanaas one of those girls who,can go bald because her face is so pretty. She has a very unique bone structure.
Oh.
Sanaa is stunning though and so is her madre, wow! If Hollywood had any sense and wasnโt a haven of racial prejudice and racism, Sanaa would be one of those Hollywood bombshells or beloved beauties. Their validation is not even necessary at the end of the day.
Sanaa is definitely bombshell material. Sheโs one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Not just one of the most beautiful black women, but one of the most beautiful women, period.
And I say โnot just one of the most beautiful black womenโ using โjustโ in terms of numbers โ among just the comparatively few black actresses in Hollywood, sheโs one of the most beautiful; and among the much larger number of actresses of all races in Hollywood, sheโs still one of the most beautiful.
Fuck fake hair and the image it portrays why do you feed into the whie man lies
TO EACH THEIR OWM!
Looks like how it looked in Love and Basketball just a bit longerโฆ Love it!!
Love her to death, but itโs short, so what am I looking at.
Sheโs got gorgeous hair. Sheโs such a beauty.
uhhhmmmmm this is not a lot of hair.โฆ.lol not trying to be rude but compared to the heads ive seen on this site and in person this ainโt a lot at all. I understand shes excited sooo you go girl!!! ๐
Love Sanaa Lathan! Beautiful and talented. I wish women in Hollywood would stop wearing weaves, wigs, and extensions and wear their natural hair. Itโs beautiful and so versatile that thereโs just no excuse. I hope she takes care of her hair. She should subscribe to this site and Curly Nikki. LOL
Me and my weave use to be attached like Aunt Esther and her pocket book, so I wonโt judge anyone wearing a weave. A good installation will cost you some coin! Just thinking of all the coins I could have saved getting to know my real hair makes me cringe.
LOLโฆ Aunt Esther sure did cling to her pocket book! Great anologyโฆ
Thats definitely alot more hair than I had when I was relaxed. She looks great. This site clearly says Black Girl long hair. I take that to mean its not entirely about natural hair. I dnt care if she wears a weave. Sheโs still gorgeous.
Sigh โฆ Mel is entitled to her opinion. So is Faith. Respect other peopleโs opinions and go about your business instead of acting like children. SMH.
THANK YOU! I donโt get why differing opinions cause such a problem nowadays. People are too sensitive.
Funny, I hadnโt noticed any objections towards individuals with differing opinions?
Smh
Well thatโs the difference between you and I because I noticed and so did a few others that liked my comment.
The difference between you and I,is that you canโt seem to determine a put down from a personal opinion. Just because some people donโt agree with Faith, doesnโt mean weโre knocking her right to her opinion. As for me, I donโt have an issue with women who wear wigs and weaves and I donโt see anything wrong with a woman who thinks sheโs not as lovely without her weave in. I know Dolly Parton doesnโt like wearing her own hair. Accept that some peopke donโt like their hair, even if it is closer in textureer to European hair. Many, many… Read more »
LoL youโre crazy if you think Iโm going to read all that. Iโm sorry you actually took the time out to type it. Put your paws down, Miss and have some tea ๐
@Cherry Oh well I apologize for writing such a long reply. I should have been more considerate to you slow, short attention span having sistas on this site. I think drawn out pictures for you to understand, would have been more effective. I can see now that youโre more likely to pick up a picture book than a novel. Next time I will take into account your comprehension level, maturity and reasoning skills, which is that of a 12 year old girl. Worry more about what you put IN your head instead of what grows on everyone elses. Thanks ๐
Thank you, Cherry.
Youโre welcome Mel. Donโt pay these people any mind. Many of them come here for the pure intent of conflict.
Lol thatโs funny coming from the ONE person starting all the conflicts ๐
Colalover,
Get a life girlfriend. You are behaving like a rabid dog. Arguing and insulting people left and right. You are the reason I donโt visit this page as often as I used to.
You must be fat, dark skin and ugly with no man.
@ keisha K are you really serious with the comment on skin colour? you my friend are one person i would NOT like to know
Colalover please go somewhere. You are always perpetuating negativity.
Why she all over your discussion though trying to instigate. So much internet gangstering here so sad!!
And btw you silly drip. Youโre the one who comes off as being overly sensitive! Talk about a lousy attitude! โ Gangsteringโ really? Get a grip on reality. You said you donโt come on here anymore, yet youโre ALL UP ON HERE!? LOL
Well I hope all you ladies have a lovely Monday morning! Stay blessed! ๐
Nope Iโm actually extremely light skin, near white practically. Iโm half Puerto, Black Foot Native American Rican and half Ethiopian. I have high cheekbones and dark eyes. But what difference does skin color make? Shut up already you racist, narcissistic, bum, Gee what personality disorder you have! ๐ You and your gang of idiots just continue to show case your ignorance. Iโm not skinny, but Iโm big in all the right places ok troll! Oh btw, been married 2 years. My ex husband I was with for 12 years. Both my ex husband and my current husband are white. I… Read more »

@ keisha K and your answer wasnโt really smart you just ended up sounding a b*tch writing garbage iโm sorry to tell (fat shaming and colorism well done!) the way you express yourself on the internet speaks volumes on the person you are in reality. next time when you want to address someoneโs behavior try to be classy yourself ps: there are plenty of โuglyโ people who are in couple you might look ugly to the others you donโt know. i donโt like the way some people are talking on this site itโs supposed to be a place where grown… Read more »
Iโve always thought Sanaa pretty. She has lovely bone structure.
Hmmmm.โฆpretty relaxed hair? These lil โcelebritiesโ are killin me with these pics on instagram. Somebody needs to tell them, โUm, you gets no props for โrockinโ yo natural hair.โฆunder a wig. So, please have a seat. That is all.โ
Agreed. I think the whole celebrities showing their hair trend is a little silly. Who the heck cares WHAT somebodyโs hair looks like under their weave? I cringe every time I see somebody posting those pics online. It just looks so desperate, insecure, and childish. It always reminds me of being in elementary school when my classmates would sit around and talk about how long their hair was โ as if actually HAVING hair is some sort of sign of worth and value. That kind of silliness is okay for an elementary school-aged child, but itโs not a good look… Read more »
Gave a plus because I agreed. You think that secretly they want to be natural, but feel
they canโt ? Industry standards perhaps. Lot of talk about natural hair, and good for that. Maybe they want to be part of something. Lol or to prove to people they got hai, cause so many balding.
Lol yes! What is really funny is that itโs like celebrities are looking for styles an inspiration from โregularโ people. Sites likes these and all the amazing naturals out there are truly making a change to concepts of beauty. Even celebrities are trying to be a part of the new natural beauty that is expanding in the black community.
Jesse, You are absolutely right!!! I am not a fan of wigs, weaves, or relaxers but RESPECT others who deem it necessary to wear them. However, I do have issue with women who feel they are unattractive or incomplete if they are in their โnaturalโ state (as opposed to having in their weave, rockinโ a wig, or relaxer). Yet and stillโฆto each his own. I think Sanaa is absolutely gorgeous. She could shave her head bald and it still wouldnโt take anything from her beauty. At the end of the day (in the words of India Arie) โI AM NOT… Read more »
Hair dominates our lives thatโs why we talk about it all the time. We are all about hair.
And also I think we are trying to find our way. Most of us do to our hair what our mothers did and got grown and found it really doesnt work.
Arenโt YOU instigating? Btw cray, cray why are you all in the convo? Maybe because you are a bully and a hypocrite? Why donโt you do your research on my comments before you showcase your ignorance? If you didnโt know idiot, I responded with a harmless comment to begin with! It was YOUR girl who took it to another level. Check it out, Iโm not the cranky, grouchy one. I have read so many articles or reviews regarding the blogger lovers however this paragraph

I love Saana and she looks beautiful as always but I do find the fascination with posting natural hair pics a bit odd. How come they donโt tweet pictures of there fresh weaves? I love to wear wigs as a protective style, but I donโt feel pressured to reveal my natural hair growth just to make sure people know Iโm not bald under there. Iโm actually looking forward to getting a professional trim and wearing my natural hair for the summer. If people are shocked, surprised or in denial about my real hair, too bad. naw
I love Sanaa Lathan and her hair what ever way she wears it!
If she styled her real hair as often as is necessary for the work she does, she would be bald or have serious heat damage. Her texture may not be as strong as say, Oprah, who gets washed and flat ironed just about every day. BUT Oprah is the boss so she is on her own time as well.
You know who you probably wonโt ever see doin this? Beyonce. I read somewhere that girl is damn near bald underneath all that. Smh
Hater
Beyonce has beautiful healthy hair. But your right, you would never catch her pulling stunts like this because she probably doesnโt feel the need to. Her mom is a hair dresser and has been taking good care of her hair all her life and when you see her nice natural hair, itโs not a special event worthy of a tweet, its just her hair and thatโs all it should be. Look at the beautiful hair texture of her baby Blu. She obviously didnโt get that from Jay! People will always have negative things to say about celebrities, but Beyonce has… Read more »
How do you know Blue Ivy didnโt get her hair texture from JayโZ? We never really see his natural texture. Also, baby hair isnโt really a good judge of what a kidโs hair texture will be like.
Well because Beyonce is creole and JZ is not. However I kniw what youโre saying.Iโve seen jz mom. beyonce mom has naturally curly wavy, hair. So I think people assume it must be from Beyonce side, sonce Beyonce looks near white. I think her sisters hair grew in pretty fast. And it looks good. I wish to see Beyonces unstraightened hair thay would be interesting.
Angie y donโt you shut up. The conversation was over a few weeks ago and you are still dwelling on it? That makes YOU negative! And you donโt know me so therefore you wouldnโt have a clue about my outlook on life. If you researched before you ran your ignorant mouth, youโd know that I wasnโt being negative, rather I was attacked by your friends. So do your research before you run your ignorant mouth! Thanks. Donโt bother responding, I wonโt be reading. Iโm done with ignorance and cattiness from ghetto chicks.
To the sister who made the following statement: Colalover: Nope Iโm actually extremely light skin, near white practically. Iโm half Puerto, Black Foot Native American Rican and half Ethiopian. Your response is an oxymoron (a figure of speech that combines contradictory terms). You say you are HALF Puerto Rican, Black Foot Native American, and HALF Ethiopian. Mathematically that does not compute. Two halves make a whole. Maybe one third of each? Because 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 which equals 1 whole. Iโm just sayinโ.โฆ.โฆ.โฆ..
My father is Puerto Rican. My motherโs father was Black foot Native American and her mother was Ethiopian American so sheโs mixed. Her grandparents were born in Ethiopia. As you can see we canโt edit stuff. My skin is extremely fair and my son took after me, so I thought it was funny her calling me dark skin, as though it was an insult. mymdaughter is brown skin. Iโm black in my opinion, since Puerto Ricans are considered black.
As you can see i typed I am โpuertoโ without the rican then typed โhalfโ it didnโt come out the way, I meant it to. Would you like my dna sample? Lol
Oh and I do know what an Oxymoron is. Thanx.
Something New
So sad many of these commentc are not indictive to the true essence of what I believe BGLH should be about
. Racist comments, superiority complexity over one skin tone to another. Meh! Not pretty at all.

It should be accepted she makes the hair style look pretty and women who are mixed should be accepted to have the hair like that in society. Very Beautiful hairstyle to me.
What are you talking about? Stop showcasing your self hatred to everyone.
She looks better without the weave.
Whatโs with all the spamming posts aboveโฆ?!
