Introduce yourself!
T: My name is Tabitha Lyn Grimaldo and I’m from Dallas, Texas.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
T: I have been natural pretty much all my life with an exception of a couple years in high school when I tried out a relaxer. My main thing was to stop flat ironing my hair. I grew out my relaxer, but was still flat ironing my hair. My hair was healthy but it wasn’t me, my natural hair is a part of who I am. It represents me.
How would you describe your texture?
T: 3b and 3c – My hair is sort of a fine texture, but I have like maybe five or six strands growing out one hair follicle so I have a lot of hair. My strands in the front are bit looser in curl pattern.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
T: I try to wash my hair every other day, if not everyday. I deep condition every two or three days. Currently I am using Herbal Essences Shine Collection Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner and Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. When I get out of the shower I don’t use any product. I use an old cotton baby blanket to wrap my hair up with and I either let it air dry or I use the blow dryer on cool air, and I blow dry upside down. I use the T3 Featherweight dryer without a diffuser. I’ve tried all sorts of methods. I’ve tried trying to get three day, four day, five day hair, but my hair will not cooperate if I go more than a couple days without drenching it in water. I’ve tried so many products – leave ins, gels, shampoos, conditioners and deep treatments. My hair doesn’t care for protein, or oils or butters. It only likes water.
What does wash day look like for you?
T: Wash day is pretty simple, although I have to give myself like a hour and fifteen minutes to do my routine. I just get in the shower, rinse my hair and separate it into two sections, maybe four depending on how tangled it is. I shampoo using Herbal Essences Shine Collection Brilliance Shampoo and I rinse then put in the conditioner. I work on one section at a time. I prefer to finger detangle, but sometimes I use my Tangle Teezer. Once I am finished with a section I clip it up. When I get all the sections detangled I rinse with cool water. Then I wrap my hair in a cotton cloth. I like Herbal Essences products, Biolage, Aussie and Pantene. But just recently I started using shampoo and conditioner again. I tried the water only routine for three months. No shampoo, no conditioner, just water and I quite liked it. I’m thinking about going back to that routine.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
T: When I don’t have a lot of time I just put it up in a bun, or I take a small section in the front, pin it back with a bobby pin and fluff my hair out a bit.
How do you combat shrinkage?
T: I have a lot of shrinkage and for the days when I want my hair to show some of its length I just use the blow dryer on warm and stretch the roots. But for the most part I don’t try to fight the shrinkage. I just let my hair do what it wants.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
T: My problem areas would be my ends. They get dry and tangled if I get lazy and don’t wash and condition my hair frequently. I just have to make sure I don’t go too many days without washing.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
T: Two do’s for my hair texture are do wash and condition often, and do finger detangle.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
T: Two don’ts for my hair texture are don’t use a lot of styling products. It will weigh the hair down, and don’t use too many products with protein. It will make the hair hard and unmanageable.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
T: You can find me at www.youtube.com/user/TheRubytulipn and afrotabi.tumblr.com.

Good gawd your hair gives me LIFE!
Wow that hair is Gorgeous, and so are you. Each photo is giving me life as fellow youtuber ‘Whoissugar’ would say :). On the picture of you with your back towards us playing the violin, I thought you were the singer Esperanza Spalding for a second lol.. You have been doing a great job on the hair, and then on the picture where it’s straightened wow look at all of that length. Keep up the good work….
her hair is everrrryyyyyyything
In a good way I am so jealous! Your hair is awesome! If I could have half the volume, love it!
very nice!
Love Ruby Tulip, amazing hair, amazing vlogger! Great post!
gorgeous hair!
Hi I love your style and just want you to know my name is Tabitha Lynn Dornal our names are sooooo close you have to be my sis from another:-)
I like your hair, but I love that you play the violin. I haven’t touched an instrument in years, but I miss playing every single day of my life.
It is NEVER too late to start (re)playing an instrument. I studied flute for 12 years, then put it down for another 12 before picking it up again. It’s not like you have to be a pro…you can just play for fun. Also they said playing an instrument is good mental exercise…Go for it! 🙂
Oh yeah. Tabitha? Nice hair. 😉

Gorgeous lady, Gorgeous hair.. Such beauty.
I think I found my hair twin! My routine is diff but texture looks almost identical, including the straighter patch in the front. Can’t wait to have this length though
I have 3b hair as well & I WAS somewhat self conscious about it until I saw this! I’m excited to let my hair shine!
Damnnnn!!! So many versatile looks from huge sexy from to sleek an wavy. The wonders of natural hair lol go girl!!
I think you have hair like my mom. Her routine is to wash every 2-3 days with diluted Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap. Use Suave conditioners then add hand lotion to her hair. Detangle and blow dry. Then put in one large braid. She flat irons for special occasions.
Wow what a beauty. That hair is awesome.
Man that is some beautiful hair on a beautiful lady! And the first photo, the black and white, such a classy photo, love it 🙂

Yes!!! Beautiful hair!! Loved everything!
She is the first person I have heard say they don’t use butters, and oils and prefers water only. Well whatever it is she is doing to her hair it looks great!!
Beautiful hair! Love that your regimen is so simple. Butters and oils tend to weigh my fine strands down as well, so I use them sparingly.
I like the fact that she can simply use water and get amazing results! Good interview.
Lord have mercy! Gorgeous hair!!
Your hair is beautiful, Tabitha.
Is it possible to have more then one hair per folicle?
I was wondering that too…
yes
Jaymi, I’ve gasped at almsot all of these photos! You put out such amazing work each and every time! What am awesome head of hair! Talk about to die for!
its amazing how much versatility natural hair has. even though your hair is 3b/3c in your fro pics your hair looks like it could be 4b and in some pics it looks like it can be 3a!!!!! you and your hair are gorgeous and i love ur density lol keep up being gorgeous!!!! 🙂
Beautiful hair!
wow. Gorgeous beautiful head of hair
she makes me want to start doing wash n go’s.
Finally found my hair twin :0
Beautiful, long hair, but it seems like 4a-4b. 3b/c are less clumped together.
Her hair does belong in the type 3 categorie with fine strands, high density and a cottony like texture. She’s no type 4. Excepr for maybe some 4a areas. People seem to confuse hairtype and hairtexture all the time. Either way, she and her hair are gorgeous!!
I was thinking the same thing she looks like 4a
possibly, but i like what the other person said about the difference between curl type (curl pattern, size) and texture. her texture is more like that which you’d find on type 4 but her actual curl size that by which she is classified as type 3b/c. i have type 3b/c hair, the center of my head in texture being simmilar to how her hair looks on the side. but the rest of my head is more silky. even so, the crown, even though in texture is coarse-feeling and all frizz, the pattern of the strands in that section are still… Read more »
