After wearing protective braids and twists during the cooler months, some of us like to change up our look during the warmer months, and this can be a challenge for those with short to medium-length natural hair. Below are four inspirational looks to spice up your style routine:
1. Spring Textured Updo
The “textured updo” is a super fun look for the warmer months and also easy to do. Watch Iknowlee demonstrate how to achieve this look in the above video tutorial.
2. Double Twisted Bun
The “double twisted bun” is a simple yet cute style to try, especially on a bad hair day. In this video, Ambrosia illustrates how to create the do, which can be modified for shorter hair.
3. Fake Tapered Cut
If you want to completely change your look but do not want to reach for the scissors, try the fake tapered haircut shown in the above video. Chelsey demonstrates how to achieve this edgy look with little effort … and no scissors.
4. Elegant Updo
This style will work beautifully and easily on medium-length natural hair. Latifatumi shows you how to work from strands that have been stretched via twists or braids into this elegant updo.
Ladies, will you try any of these styles?
THESE STYLES ARE GORGEOUS AND I THINK I CAN ROCK THEM ON MY MID-LENGTH HAIR. THANK YOU!
My hair is too short I think for the majority of the styles. Oh Well.
just add pieces..that’s what i do.
I have my hair in style #4 (the elegant updo) right now — it’s my go-to hairdo for work.
I’ve been doing style number 4 for years (the elegant updo) for years. Instead of a twist though I do a french braid down the side and then I put it into a cute side bun on the opposite side of my head where I started the braid! I think the braid and side bun look younger and more fun/cute. I would wear the one in the video to a job interview or work or something but I would wear my version for a night out or just for a casual day!
#2 Double Twisted Bun and #4 Elegant Updo for sure. Always looking for new ideas.
I love style #3. It is perfect for the work place! It is easy, neat, and professional! i need a wee bit more hair though. Now, who said our natural hair isn’t versatile?! #girlpleaseworkit!
The styles are beautiful but these naturals don’t have short hair. I just see medium-length.
Please don’t get discouraged so easily. Two of the styles can be modified for shorter hair and one of the styles (the fake tapered cut) is done on short hair. That is three of the four styles right there. I used to have short hair (~4 inches) and could rock three of these styles. Even with 3 inches, one could still wear style #1 and style #3. (For example, check out Iknowlee’s friend with shorter hair in the first few seconds of her video.) The beautiful thing about being natural is we can be super creative and styles look unique… Read more »
I agree with Kelly. This works well on medium length hair. I would end up breaking a lot of my hair off trying to recreate these styles. I do believe I could modify the double bun but without the bun part. 🙂
I am loving that first style! So cute!
LOVE style #4!!! If I could ever get the hang of flat twisting I would wear this style all day ever day! I do a variation of it now, but I like this style better.

Style #1 has been on my repertoire for months now and I luv it!! I usually put my hair in 2 big flat twists when I am feeling lazy, so I will try the stlye #2 as a variation.
My hair is to short and it makes me look like a boy for any of these styles
