Introduce yourself!
S: My name is Sasha and I am 21 years old. I am from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, but I am currently residing in Columbus, Ohio.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
S: It is a very long story. I have actually been natural for 5 years, but when I decided to go natural I just wanted to stop getting relaxers. I didn’t know much about my natural hair so I continued to flat iron it as if it were relaxed…every 2 weeks. This resulted in very bad heat damage, so my hair wouldn’t curl up. After I did a ton of research I realized that I couldn’t repair the severe heat damage unless I transitioned out of it or cut it all off. I decided to do the big chop 17 months ago and this is where I am now. I felt as if I really didn’t need a relaxer. I only got them about twice a year and I realized that my hair looked the same flat ironed with a relaxer as when I didn’t have one. It looked more full and healthy without the relaxer.
How would you describe your texture?
S: I would describe my hair as 3b in the front and 3c in the back. My hair is VERY thick and frizzy, so I learned that I have to style and detangle when it’s wet to get the best results. My hair is fine, but I have thick strands.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
S: During the course of a month I wear my hair in a bun a lot because it is easy for me to maintain when going to work, etc. I wear a wash and go during the weekends and puffs as well. I don’t really do twist outs or braid outs because my hair isn’t as long as I want it to be, but I’m sure when my hair gets to the length I want I will do them. For my wash and go’s I keep it pretty simple. I use Let’s Jam Custard and Fantasia IC Gel. Sometimes I try different products, but those are my staple products as of now. For my buns I use Eco Styler Gel.
What does wash day look like for you?
S: I usually wash my hair on the weekends. I use Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner. I only use shampoo when my hair feels like it has a lot of build up. Aussie moist is a wonderful conditioner and it defines and makes my hair easy to detangle. When my hair is damp I separate it into about 6 sections and apply my product of choice. I apply my product generously because my hair is so thick then brush it with the Denman Brush, which detangles and defines my curls. After I am done I shake my hair back and forth and up and down to give it volume and diffuse for about 5 minutes so my hair is not soaking wet. The wash and go will last for about 3–4 days using this method. I deep condition my hair with Aussie 3 Minute Miracle once a week.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
S: The high bun is for sure my go to hairstyle. It’s classy and chic for work, but can also be funky and edgy for going out.
How do you combat shrinkage?
S: My hair has the most shrinkage on my first day wash and go. I embrace it. At night I put my hair in a high puff to stretch it and in the morning my hair looks a little longer and I rock it that way.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
S: The front/top of my hair is definitely my problem area because my curls are much looser than the back and very frizzy. When it’s wet it almost just looks like a wave in some areas. To help with this I use the Denman brush which helps define it and make my curls pop.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
S: Moisturize often and only style while damp or wet.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
S: Never detangle while dry and don’t shampoo too much because it causes my hair to feel dry.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

Cool styles!
So insanely cute!!!
This chick is bad!! Love the hair and heart shape face, you go girlie!
Hahahahahahahaha.
Hahahahahahahahahaha 😀 3b:-D:-D
what’s funny?
^This. Possibly I’m being thick, but I actually don’t understand the joke? She doesn’t think the hair is 3b, is that it? (O_o) *confused face*
It wouldn’t be a BGLH post if *someone* didn’t contribute something just to be negative. Gross.
Dearest Tia, there are other ways to express yourself if you disagree with someone. Being rude is never called for.
My question is, since when did BGLH start attracting such immature trolls? I think it’s happened because this site occasionally features women who attract a less than secure and mature fanbase.
@Tia: Oh you mad, huh? Beacuse Sasha has beautiful natural hair, great fashion sense and is inspiring other black woman. Oh yea…you mad.
Gorgeous! It looks so healthy!
I lurrvvee her hair–so shiny, thick, and healthy looking. Get it girl!
You’re too cute, work it gurl!!
Loving those curls girl! Looks so fluffy and soft 🙂
by the way love the hair
Yes, I am totally jealous of your hair. Completely. LOL!
Great hair and style!
I love her hair too. Soo pretty. I am so jelly 😛
Really diggin’ the jumbo braid hairstyle. I am going to try that, if you don’t mind. Me gusta! 😀
Absolutely love your hair and how you style it!
I SOOOO want her hair!!!
Wow they let any one get a. Feature her hair isn’t long??
Dear Ms. Smith,
I will pray for you.
Sincerely,
Meek
poor baby she wants a feature too
It’s called Style Icon, not long hair icon. The website is entitled Black Girl Long Hair, not this section. Duh.
Many women that are featured on this website don’t have long hair. Plus, her hair could actually could be long, remember it’s curly hair we’re talking about here.
Never mind I didn’t see the pictures where she cut it off, but still not just long haired women are featured here.
What beautiful hair and skin. That low cut is making me think about cutting my hair.… FOR THE THIRD TIME! Smh
Beautiful!
Ok, can we also start getting skin care secrets on here?? All the features have such beautiful skin too! Anyway, great styles. My hair is getting a bit longer now and I’m really looking forward to trying some of the things people have done in these features!
Its misleading for her to say she’s a 3b
Why? She looks like she has some 3b hair at least at the top front, enough to mention it? Not aimed at you Kaylee but.… Seriously, people need to find a nicer way of expressing disagreement with something that is said here or choices of style icon. I’m sure people will become more reluctant to participate and yet this site does it best. I still think BGLH should do away with the hair typing as it is valid to say that some style icons do not know their hair type which in turn causes people to comment on that fact… Read more »
Agree with you totally — it’s just sheer nonsense, we know that some are going to type their hair, and that’s their choice, but then when they then look at people and then get (some — pretty vocal ) about what hair type that person has, you then see how scary some of us can be. Some try to start arguments, with you about YOUR HAIR — I’m not joking (some really do) and in some cases it’s not only about hair typing, it’s about length, texture, and a host of other things, (it’s almost like some of us are… Read more »
@Zanthe: Well said!!!
she mentioned her curl pattern is looser in front so I don’t see how what she said is misleading
How is it misleading?? The size, and shape of her curls fit exactly in the 3b description… What are u confused or mislead about??? .… Her and her hair are gorgeous btw
+1 ITA
exactly what everyone else said. mine’s 3b/c and the front sides my hair’s actually 3a- i just discount that front though because it’s kinda minor and insignificant to me since it never behaves like the rest of my hair- it’s wavy straight, ironically. but the majority of my hair, 3b (crown 3c and thick and on its own agenda half the time)looks just like hers. so yes, i’d def say that she’s 3b. even though at the end of the day it doesn’t make much difference because whether she’s right or wrong, it’s all about how she personally perceives her… Read more »
Thanks Zanthe but overally she doesnt look 3b. Moreso 3c/4a. Its very difficult to sound diplomatic and not rude when giving a critique. Its very difficult cuz your gonna get attacked and called a hater etc. Being rude isnt my intent. However I just think 3b is misleading.
The size and shape of her curls fit exactly into the 3b description… What’s misleading about it?
Clearly u need to look at a hair typing chart again. There isn’t an ounce of 4a hair obvious on this girls head!
I think people confuse dense hair for type 4. Her hair is not 4a at all but the curls aer so dense it can look type 4. She is obbiously 3b / 3c.
Her hair looks like Kenya who is a 3b/3c style icon — only shorter. Just because it doesn’t hang flat to head, people assume its in the 4 range. It’s obbiously not.
Exactly. When your hair is longer you can see the pattern. I thought my hair was 4b in the back until it grew out, my hair type in probably like 4a. But in general I say I have type 4 hair, it’s kinky, whether it’s a S or Z doesn’t matter! And that beautiful young woman above has type 3. BTW her hair is gorg!
Gorgeous!! I agree with Sophie…can we get some skin care secrets? I love the short tapered look and the long pony reminds me of a 90’s movie like Jason’s Lyric or something…Cuteness all over this feature!
love your hair cut
Sasha I love ur hair and ur dope sense of style!
I LOVE HER HAIR OMG! HAIR CRUSH!!!
absolutely beautiful 🙂
Great hair and she repping my city.… Columbus!!! So many naturals here…love it!
my hair is 4a in the front and back… my hair looks nothing like hers. shes def. in the 3s.
–you have the cutest little face lol. very cute hair.. keep rockin that!
Lovely!
Fabulous curls — Look at’em! Look at’em!
C+C
Her hair reminds me of mahogany curls. It is definitively 3b and 3c hair…no question. 4a hair would be more like Naptural85, a tighter coily curl and very beautiful. This beautiful sister featured above has 3b and 3c hair as she stated herself. BTW: This is why I have a problem with hair typing. Many don’t understand it, it can be very subjective, and based on the ignorant statements by the few it is used as a weapon to try humilate women. Depending on the style sometimes 3c hair can look like 4a hair. Her hair as well as all the… Read more »
+1 I totally agree. Curly hair is amazing in how it can look vastly different depending on what you do to it. However, it is clear to me from viewing Sasha’s curls that they clearly fall within the 3b/3c category. Not really sure why folks are confused about this one.
Def a new hair crush 🙂
Oh for the love of GAWD!
Really…she has darker skin and the HairTypeBimbos are upset–get a grip already–
She is beautiful. My newest crush.
Deal with it. Hair is hair. Shame on you for getting caught up in something as stupid as hair typing.
Beautiful hair, face and style. Congrats.
What is the issue? If you are 3b, get here and realize that maybe your hair texture doesn’t match hers then just ignore it. Isn’t that the point of hair typing? To get cool tips from people with similar hair to yours? Hair typing is flighty and not very consistent. It’s flawed and that’s fine. Our hair is so diverse why does it matter? Also is it possible that because we are not putting our fingers in her hair that she knows better than we do what sort of hair she has? Also this girl is friggin BEAUTIFUL. I’m always so… Read more »
Gorgeous hair!…Beautiful complexion!!…just flawless!!! 🙂
