Introduce yourself!
Y:
My name is Yagazie. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I will forever and always rep Aba in Nigeria lol. I’m a student. And that pretty much sums up my life. I’m a double major in Cultural Anthropology and African Studies and I graduate this December.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
Y:
Nothing, actually. I’ve been natural the majority of my life save for the two or so times that my mother got fed up with my hair and permed it. Back in Nigeria, I did the big chop. Except that I chopped off a bunch of natural hair. It was a requirement in my old school to be bald, and so I was for about four years.

How would you describe your hair?
Y:
Well, I do have quite a bit of hair, but each individual strand is very thin so I experience a lot of breakage and split ends. And my goodness, it gets so dry out here in New Mexico so honestly, most of the time my hair is dry and frizzy.

What is your regimen?
Y:
I’m not particular about what products I use to wash my hair, but as for oiling and whatnot, I’ve always stuck with shea butter and coconut oil. Nowadays, I’ve gone very old school with taking care of my hair. I used to do bantu twists and two strand twists, but that actually gave me split ends so now I’m going back to how I used to take care of my natural hair as a child. I now comb my hair when a little bit damp with lots of shea butter and oil in it. I thoroughly comb it out then do fat plaits.

How do you retain length and moisture in your hair?
Y:
I don’t. I live in New Mexico hahaha, and it is so much hard work to walk around with a spray bottle.

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
Y:
I will never trim my hair myself. I get so fed up with my split ends that I try cutting them off myself, but end up taking off more than needed. This has always drastically shortened my hair every time.

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
Y:
Moisturize. I just need more tips on how to do so.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
Y:
There sure is! You can find me on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/yemezi And Blogspot: http://hungryabagal.blogspot.com/ And Tumblr!: http://yagazieemezi.tumblr.com/
