Noddy // Natural Hair Style Icon

Avatar • Jun 13, 2011

Where do you live?
N:
I live in Hawthorne (California), but I rep Westwood, because thats where I go to school #UCLA!! 🙂

Why did you go natural?
N:
Well I technically went natural 10 years ago, but I didnt really start taking care of my hair till about 5 years ago.

In what ways, if any, has going natural affected you?
N:
When I really started my natural journey I was in high school, and people would mock tease and make fun of me all the time callin my dirty nappy, etc, but I maintained my hair, because I saw it as gorgeous, regardless of what people said.

How would you describe your hair?
N:
Texture: It’s usually quite soft, it can get a little dry at times, but generally it’s lovely, and I love my curl pattern. Very tight curls.
Thickness: It’s very thick
Behavior: It’s very responsive and malleable, unless I get lazy and neglect it for a few days

What’s your regimen?
N:
Co‐wash with Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner
-Apply Cantu leave in repair treatment
-Apply my oil mixture: olive oil, coconut oil, lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, jojoba oil, or an oil mixture called : Gueye Mother Nature’s Best Fast Grow Oil
-Twist it up, or do some other protective style

What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
N:
A huge mistake I made was putting peroxide on my hair (regular peroxide) and it broke off a little hair in the back. Another mistake was putting my hair in tight pony tails all the time (that thins out the front of your hair)

What’s the best/most effective thing you do for your hair?
N:
The most effective thing for my hair are the two strand twists, my hair grows soooooo quickly like that. I also take biotin sometimes (taking it too much messes up my skin).

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
N:
I don’t really have an active blog, butI will be starting a blogspot and a youtube channel too (I’ll keep you posted).

Anything else you want to add?
N:
Natural hair is the best way to go. When I am not natural, I don’t feel like myself. Natural isn’t just a hairstyle, it’s a life style 🙂

I love your hairstyles. I cannot wait to watch your youtube account. The curl pattern, density, and behavior of your hair seems very similar to mine so I’ll like to see how you style your hair. My twists don’t stay on for the life of me and they tend to straighten the bottom with the style reflected just at the top. Anyway, looking forward to your videos.

Can I ask a question about style one and those who do styles like this?

Do you use combs, brushes, pomade and gel to achieve these styles? My hair is not really long enough or it shrinks a little too much but then again, I do not use combs and I do not gel etc etc. Other people’s hair seems to just slink into these completely coiffed styles.

Thanks.
