Men who tried to co-opt the #AllBlackGirlsDont were swiftly shut down.

Along the way, some black women started using the tag to distance themselves from black women with short hair, children out of wedlock, financial problems and violent behavior. This sparked a discussion about what the tag was really for — to speak out against negative societal stereotypes, or enforce them in a way by associating negative behavior with black womanhood.

And some felt that the hashtag invited black women to live in self-conscious awareness of the stereotypes that surround them.

  1. Black women don’t need to explain themselves. Trends should go unfollowed. In my opinion, one’s recognition of self is enough to be perceived as “All Black Girls Don’t”. If you don’t fit the stereotype, you don’t need to explain why. If you do fit it, so what. Continue owning it. These are open doors for White ppl to continue analyzing and enforcing more stereotypes, then using it as backlash possibly like, “White girls don’t – Buy fake hair.” MYTH. But it will spark arguments.

  2. I don’t know where that one girl has been but people have been digging on Serena’s booty for a while now. I see what people are talking about. I have never fit in the stereotypical of what black people let alone black women are supposed to be. I have never ran my life or time management on CPT, and I apparently sound white on the phone (that’s just proper education and a positive household, but whatever) I have no children, never been to jail, I am not a gold digger, nor a hood rat. I was raised in the valley and the country, I have a college education, I have a great job, the list goes on and on of the opposite of what “Black woman are supposed to be. I think all ethnic groups have their stereotypes that they are sick of. My friend is Asian and she says that she is not into guys who have the “Asian Fetish”. lol

I’ve noticed that no matter what when we want to raise ourselves up there will always be the trolls that want to use some BS to keep you down or make you feel like you shouldn’t be proud of who you are or where you come from no matter what color or whatever your background is.

  3. I think it was a nice way to excercise self acceptance till people started hating it and finding faults with it

Not everything you have to take so seriously and harshly
