Sure I’m not an actress, just a stan of many of the women here. But why couldn’t that be enough to land me an invite to Alfre Woodard’s Sistahs Soiree?
Viola Davis, Tracee Ellis Ross and Rosario Dawson
Emayatzy Corinealdi and Aja Naomi King
The event, held Wednesday and now in its eighth year, is Woodward’s way of celebrating the love black women in Hollywood have for each other. But can a black woman *not* in Hollywood come and show some love too? If I showed up with my ticket stubs from Fences, Hidden Figures, Loving, Creed, Pariah and Middle of Nowhere, could I get in? I mean, these women do represent a good chunk of the TV and film characters I watch regularly… If not an invite just a few seconds to run around the room screaming ‘Black Girl Magic’ before falling, exhausted, into Viola Davis’ majestic arms.
Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Ruth Negga
Margaret Avery, Viola Davis and Cynthia Erivo
Tessa Thompson and Rosario Dawson
I bet that room smelled so good. I bet their skin is so soft. And OHMYGOD Latanya Jackson was there!
Angela Basset, Yolonda Ross and Ruth Negga
Kim Wayans, Latanya Jackson and Emayatzy Corinealdi
This is like a greatest hits of ‘black women in entertainment who are the shit right now.’ This is like the dream team for a girls vacation. This is like a live-action melanin mood board. There are decades worth of pure legend in this room.
Angela Basset, Yolonda Ross and Ruth Negga
Rosario Dawson, Alfre Woodard and Rashida Jones
Lorraine Toussaint and Diahann Carroll.
Well, my sadness is bordering on depression, so I guess I should stop now.
Melanin overdose!!! The amount of melanin, #blackgirlmagic and #blackexcellence is too much. Keep doing you’re thing ladies and slay HW.
My heart is full
I wonder if Jessica White was invited? And if not, why not? And if so, why didn’t she show? ??
No need to get depressed. Not invited? Start your own thing. Don’t wait for someone to validate you.
