The annual Trinidad and Tobago Carnival was held this past Monday and Tuesday in the City of Port-Of-Spain. Masquerade bands, each dressed in its own colorful costume, took to the streets dancing (or, “jumping up”, as its called).
The event dates back to the late 1700s when French plantation owners would organize masquerades and balls before the fasting of Lent. Laborers and slaves who were unable to take part in the carnival formed their own celebration, Canboulay, from the French cannes brulées, meaning burnt cane. ~ International Business Times

Did you attend the Trinidad & Tobago Carnival this year? What was your experience?
Absolutely stunning.…let me put this cookie down so I can be brave enough go next time.
Ikr! I gotta pull a Forrest Gump to get back in shape.. Lol
Every year I tell myself I want to participate and dance for Carnival. It doesn’t have to be TnT. They look beautiful. I do not know where to get a costume. Sometimes I feel like I wait to long to get everything (hotel, flight, costume). I would go solo too!
They have carnivals here in the US too. Along the east coast. Miami, NY, Atlanta Boston. Boston has a website you can go to and find the names of the bands, band leaders and contact info. The same might be true fro other locations.
wish I was deh!!! Love carnival maybe next year after I have my baby girl Ill go chipping away
I come from Trinidad and went there when i was 6, still got some of the carnival clothes that were dropped after.
I was there!!! …I mean here. Still here. So hard to leave each and every time.
Love up meh country!!
Never thought I would see a feature story on my very own culture. Feeling honored and blessed!
Thanks!!!
