You know when people ask “if you were stuck on a desert island, what’s one _____ you would have to have”? Well I know if asked about the ONE hair tool they couldn’t live without, many naturals would say bobby pins or maybe a goody ouchless band, but I’m here to show you why a pack of perm rods (or multiple packs with multiple sizes) is actually the one thing you’ll ever need for an abundance of versatile natural hair styling options.
You Can Fake a Tapered Cut
Before I decided to join #teamtapered, I drooled over pRoy’s faux tapered cut that she achieved by using multiple sized perm rods and multiple rod techniques.
Use Perm Rods to Revamp Your Crochet Braids
If you’re still rocking the crochet braid style, you should try brushing out your curls and rodding the ends of large braids for a softer, more romantic curl pattern like I did.
They Work for All Hair Lengths and Textures
Kendra and Jess demonstrate the perm rods work for all lengths and textures.
Even Transitioners Too!
While she was transitioning, our homie Christina did a twist and curl using perm rods and created a super cute style that gives transitioning hair the fullness and volume of natural hair.
Plus Loc’d Ladies and Gents Can Benefit As Well
Kokofemme shows how using two products and small perm rods on her shoulder length locs creates a cute curly style.
Use Large Rods to Stretch Out Your Hair
I couldn’t find a video example of this, but in my mind, I think it’s very possible to use perm rods to stretch your hair for a heatless blow out. To speed up the install process, use larger rods and sections on damp, not wet hair, use a product with minimal hold, let dry overnight, and then just comb or brush the next day to create stretched hair!
If this doesn’t convince you to go out and buy some perm rods, then I don’t know what will!
Are you a fan of perm rods?
i love rod and roller sets. CHILE they be keepin ma hair on fleek especially this summer, my hair is colored so it really makes it pop. i tried this tutorial recently and the fact that she practically didn’t use any products makes it too dope PLUS HER ACCENT IS LIFE. She stays slayin with her tutorials and she’s 4c too!
I’m so bad with them though. I don’t know what I keep doing wrong but it ends up a big mess and i just make it into a curly afro. Maybe my hair isn’t long enough yet?
