5 Undercuts on Naturals of All Lengths to Give You Life this Summer!

Avatar • Jun 10, 2015

It’s finally summertime. While some people are getting box braids (myself included), or dyeing their hair bright colors (yup, did this too), it’s also a time when a lot of naturals get bothered by the thought of being hot, so they cut their hair. If you want to tiptoe the line of drastic but not so drastic change, a side or back undercut is the perfect way to spice up your natural hair look without losing a lot of length. Traditionally, the undercut is the process of shaving the back and sides of one’s hair, and is popular among men. For naturals, we use the term undercut to refer to either shaved sides, back, or both — often with an intriguing design. Check out the following naturals who got an undercut for some dope summer hair inspirations!

Mahogany Knots

I’ve loved Kiki of Mahogany Knots from way back in my early days of being natural, so I gasped in awe when she got this super bold undercut! Who says you can’t be edgy, grown, and be a mother??

Hodovodo

This beauty has a MEAN undercut + flat top combination. She has many more styles on her Instagram feed, so check it out!

Jouelzy

You’ve probably seen Jouelzy’s undercut before, and though it has since grown out, it was the perfect complement to her straight, no chaser persona.

Knotty Natural

Lillian aka Knotty Natural’s undercut is super subtle and just long enough that wearing her hair down could make it look like a tapered fro.

If you’re not following this UK blogger on Instagram, you need to do so right now! Sasha always has the most creative hairstyles (coupled with good photography), but she took my breath away when she debuted this subtle undercut. Just goes to show that an undercut isn’t restricted to shorter hair or tapered fros!

Would you try the undercut this summer?
