What is your name and where are you from?
C: Hello my name is Cintia & I am from Baltimore Maryland
Did you transition or big chop? Share your natural hair journey with us!
C: In 2008 I made the best decision ever to return natural and start my journey. I decided to return natural because perms made my hair thin and limp; it had no body, no volume. I was afraid to big chop since I always had long hair. I just couldn’t imagine going from a head full of hair to nothing, so I decided to slowly transition cutting little by little each month until I was fully natural. I believe it took 1 year before I was completely natural. During my transition period I cut down on heat to preserve my curls. Flexi rods, perm rods, & curl formers were my best friends during my transition. Instagram and all the awesome natural hair pages inspired me and helped me along the way. It wasn’t easy but it was worth it!
How would you describe your texture?
C: My hair texture is 3a/3b mixture when my hair is wet. I have a loose curl pattern. My hair is fine and dense.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month, and the rationale behind your various styling decisions.
C: My favorite style to wear is big fluffy curls. I achieve my curls using Caruso Steam Rollers. They are the absolute best. Beautiful curls in 20 minutes without heat damage. My curls last at least 3 weeks as long as they’re in a pineapple or rolled with flexi rods every night. All I use to set my curls is Suave holding spray.
What does wash day look like for you?
C: The night before wash day I always massage my scalp with a mixture of water, apple cider vinegar and peppermint oil. .. ahhh, its the best tingle ever and my scalp loves it. The next day I wash with Creme of Nature Straight from Eden Shampoo. Then I deep condition using The Mane Choice Green Tea and Carrot deep conditioner and either sit under my Huetiful steamer or wear my Thermal Hair Care Hot Head for 30mins. After deep conditioning I use Straight from Eden Leave-in Conditioner and style as usual.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
C: On days when I don’t have a lot of time to style my hair and my curls are in their own little world (lol), my go-to style is a top bun, puff, or of course my favorite “bad hair day” hat.
How do you combat shrinkage?
C: We all know shrinkage is not a joke. My hair hangs down my back (mid-back length), but my shrinkage puts me back at shoulder length. They say it’s a sign of healthy hair so I’m cool with it. But when I want to stretch my hair I either do a blow out or part my hair in four sections while its wet and do four big braids until its dry.
Tell us about your hair color!
C: Last year in September of 2014 I got a little bored with my hair color. I decided I wanted to try something different and vibrant. I didn’t want to spend $130 at the salon, so I did some research on the color I wanted and what I needed to do and use to prepare for the process. I decided to go with L’Oreal Hi Color for dark hair in the color Magenta. I picked L’Oreal High Color for dark hair because I learned that I would not have to bleach my hair to achieve my desired color. So I prayed about it… lol and went ahead and did it. It came out beautiful and I didn’t experience any breakage, dryness or damage.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require extra care and attention?
C: I don’t have any problem areas but because of my color I give extra care/attention to my ends by keeping them moisturized to prevent breakage and retain length
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
C: Keep it moisturized and detangled.
What are 2 dont’s for your texture?
C: Never go to bed without putting my hair in a pineapple or wearing my bonnet.
Is there a blog/webpage or social media account where we can find you?
C: My Instagram name is Cintia_Marie .… I’m working on getting a YouTube account going so stay tuned!
