Rihanna Rocks ‘Felicia Braids’ and Bantu Knots for I‐D Magazine

• Jan 30, 2015

Hi Felicia!

Rihanna is on the cover of February’s I‐D magazine rocking a fierce set of chunky braids or plaits (if you’re from the old school). While we’ve certainly seen an uptick in popularity for traditional box braids, these individual plaits usually aren’t given a second thought. Does anyone foresee this style catching on?

The singer also donned bantu knots. Now, Rih is no stranger to this style. She most recently rocked them at the iHeart Radio Music Awards last May. She’s really giving me “Runaway” era Janet Jackson here.

What do you think of the looks? Do you think plaits will be the next style to gain popularity?

In America it’s generally the older generation that uses that term.

really? what does the new generation say? In Ghana we just call it braids, and plait is rarely used. Here the older gen. say ‘three‐three’ lol (cause three bits of hair are used to braid:) )… I only heard of ‘box‐braids’ from this website.

We say plait in the Caribbean too. We usually only say braid if extensions are being usd

There are folks in the US who say “plait” or “plat” as well, I think it just depends on region or who you’re around.

She changes her look too much. Her style is all over the place. Its hard to say if will catch on because she never wears one look long enough to play with it. Braids seem to fade in and out never really going completely out though. I’d like to see decorative corn rolls would come back in style in a big way.

Rihanna looks good in anything. She is truly a physical beauty. Its weird that styled her to look like FKA twigs though. Maybe they did that because many people dont know about her.

Now this look I like. But I do hope she can stick with it for a good while.

Love huh! These pictures are nice.
But I didn’t know that some referred to this style as ‘Felicia Braids’?
They look like the plaits I put in my hair before I shampoo!

I’m 56 years old and my teenagers remind me that i mispronounce that Ri’s name all the time. But this I know: that child rocks the hairs styles!

This FKA down to the thing in her nose.

rihanna wore a fake nose piercing last summer and she’s worn the bantu knots a while back. twigs is not the first nor the last to sport either of those styles.

LOL exactly and there are even old childhood pics of Rihanna wearing similar braids. this comparison with FKA, who didnt invent that look is just laughable.

hey, the septum piercing is not fake, she has had it for some years now and it’s amazing! I have the same and it’s so easy to hide in your nose!

I love this look on her and also the Bantu Knots. I also like her old childhood pics where she is wearing braids. Braids suit her very well 🙂
