Introduce yourself.
J: My name is Janae Miller. I am 27 years young and I’m a licensed cosmetologist, located in Houston, TX.
Did you transition or big chop?
J: I have been naturally curly for over 10 years. My transition to natural hair came about by me cutting my hair into a nice bob hair cut. Although I’ve been naturally curly for a while, I did not properly know how to care for my hair, especially considering I have been color treated the majority of time.
How would you describe your texture?
J: If I had to take a guess, I’d say my curl pattern was more of a 3c with 3b at the nape. The texture is more medium fine, with medium density.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month, and the rationale behind your various styling decisions.
J: My styling regimen is very simple: A Braid out or twist out is my go to hairstyle. My leave in moisturizer is Cantu Shea Butter’s leave in repair cream. I love that stuff!
What does wash day look like for you?
J: I shampoo using the Redken Color Extend shampoo followed by Redken Extreme Shots for a reconstructing treatment or a moisturizing treatment on my hair every 2 weeks. I switch between moisture and reconstructing treatments.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
J: On my lazy days, low buns are my best friend.
How do you combat shrinkage?
J: Shrinkage has never really been a problem for me. I embrace whatever my hair wants to do. The health of my hair and scalp is my main concern.
Tell us about your hair color!
J: I am a licensed cosmetologist and I am certified with the professional hair color line Pravana. I absolutely adore their line of hair color! With frequent changes of hair color, you will see a slight change in curl pattern, but after reconstructing treatments you will notice your curls spring back into action! Hair color is a journey, not a destination, so patience and a gradual process is key when going through hair color changes.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require extra care and attention?
J: My problem area would be my crown. It grows lower than the rest of my hair, and tends to be shorter with a coarser texture.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
J: Only 2? LOL. Water & moisturizer. Simple.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
J: Rough combing on dry or wet hair.
Is there a blog/webpage or social media account where we can find you?

I love the colour changes especially the pastel pink and lavender. Your hair is gorgeous and looks so healthy. I hope to try colour soon but my mom is wary,I’m only 15 any tips for it anyone?
What a lovely head of hair. She has to be a professional to maintain such a full amount of hair after all the coloring. She’s cute nonetheless and I especially love the blue fro 🙂
