The learning curve when using flexi rods, rollers, perm rods or bantu knots can be a bit high for some naturals.  If this sounds like your situation, check out these innovative ways to get the same flawless curly sets:

1. Twist and Curl (for a rod set alternative)

Description: Twist previously stretched hair, apply perm rods, let the style set, then undo for these tight curls.
Products used: water, ORS Nature’s Shine, KurleeBelle Jelle Coconut Styling Gel, KurleeBelle Kurl Defining Creme
Tools: clips, rat tail comb, perm rods

2. Braids then Flexi Rods (for a rod set alternative)

Description: Braid the hair being sure to twist the ends, apply flexi rod, let the style set, and then remove rods and undo braids for curls.
Products used: Water, oil of your choice
Tools: hooded dryer

3. Twists then Bantu Knots (for a bantu knot out alternative)

Description: Braid the hair, apply flexi rod, let the style set, and then remove rods and undo braids for curls.
Products used: Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue, Eco Styler Gel
Tools: comb

4. Flat Twist then Bantu Knot (for a bantu knot out alternative)

Description: Flat twist the hair in the direction you want your style to flow. Bantu knot the ends, let the style set, and then remove the knots and undo the flat twists for curls.
Products used: Soft & Beautiful Botanicals Botanical Oil, SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk
Tools: rat tail comb, bobby pins

5. Three-Strand Twists (a more defined two-strand alternative)

Description: Starting on stretched hair, twist three strands (see video for demo), let the style set, and then undo the twists for curls.
Products used: Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel, water
Tools: clips
