Model Jessica White Shows Off Her Curls on Instagram

Avatar • Jan 7, 2014

Model Jessica White took to Instagram recently to show off her natural curls. The Maybelline spokesmodel posted the following photo with the caption;

#nofiter last day home… Then back to my weave, makeup and heels! Ugh can’t wait lol

Screen Shot 2014-01-07 at 5.43.12 PM

She also posted a couple photos relaxing with family members while rocking her curls.

She looks so different! Wow the power of lighting and photoshop! She is still naturally really pretty. Her hair however looks like it needs a break from the wigs n weaves. Its thinning her hair out in the front. I hate to see the damage that weaves do cause they are self inflicted. They should bevrequired to put warning labels on packs of hair.

You point taken, that a person can have naturally thin edges. My question to you, do you think the constant wearing of a weave is helping or causing thinner edges? That could be why she can’t wait to get back to her weave, so that she does not have to look at thin edges.

You’re right. The standard of beauty that is set for women in entertainment is terrible, especially for women of color and full figured girls. I think that’s why I root for the Janelle Monaes and Solanges who refuse to conform and force others to take notice.

I may be in the minority but I took her message differently. I didn’t see it as complaining about her natural hair. I took it to be as her saying that her days off are over and now it’s time to get back to her job as a model. It doesn’t sound too different than when people groan when Mondays come around after having the weekend off because it’s time to head back to the workplace.

Her hair does look thin, but it could be nothing to do with weave, but just how her hair naturally is? On the other hand, it could due to all the heat used to blend her hair with the weave.

I don’t think the comment she made is that deep. Sounds like she can’t wait to get back to looking glamorous and “modelly” again. You can see she looks normal, in a chill out state. She’s just being silly saying she wants to look all made up again *shrug*

Wow her hair is beautiful. You know what I find interesting, that some tighter headed curls wish for looser curls and girls with looser curls wont even showcase their hair. It’s like with all these desire for looser curls, you’d think that the looser curled girl would show off their hair more but it doesnt happen. Which just means the tightness/looseness of curls does not matter at all in the grand scheme of things, people will still have insecurity over their hair. Hence, why people should just rock the beautiful hair on their head without wishing to have somebody’s hair.

Her hair is not loose at all. It may not be 4c but it’s still quite kinky. Her hair type is still one that would be considered “bad hair” and probably was growing up before this whole natural hair movement. It’s not like shes wishing for even tighter hair.

Leslie, such a negative comment thrown in on a sister who is sharing her hair. Here you are using the slave term “bad hair”. Stop spreading your hate and ignorance and learn what “bad hair”, means in terms of trying to get Blacks around the world to accept their hair. There is no good hair or bad hair, Leslie. HAIR IS JUST HAIR!

Actually HER hair would be considered “good hair” in the black community.I don’t believe in that “good hair, bad hair mess” But her her curl is not tight at all. It’s in the middle as we Black people go. You must be comparing it to what most white people believe is “good hair” or something? Because her hair is actually not that kinky at all. It’s a little damage but it looks good and she appears healthy.

I know a girl who I’ve never seen out of a wig, I just assumed she had about a teaspoon full of hair, she’s always admiring my 4b/4c hair, then one day she shows me a picture of her 3c/4a hair down her back! Anyway we should remember that quote “To each his(her)own” I’ve never had the want to wear a weave because I know that I’d lack maintenance, but I do like wigs and if weaves are she enjoys wearing then I say go for it. If you don’t like fake hair that’s fine but don’t put people down for not sharing your feelings:)

I always took it has no matter what, your hair isn’t good enough. When bone straight hair is the ideal and stand, no one’s hair is good enough. Like, I never understood why people with straight hair or white people with already straight natural hair were using flat irons. It’s just a message that is sent to us, as women, we are never good enough and when it comes to hair texture your hair will never be straight enough, good enough. That’s why I left all that behind and don’t look back.

I think there’s nothing wrong with her hair. I don’t get why celebrities show of their natural hair in order to be a part of the “#teamnatural”, but they simultaneously bash natural hair. That’s a HUGE assumption to make. “Back to weave, makeup, and heels. ugh cant wait” could be in reference to her ready to get back to work, as she is a MODEL. She could have been more clear, but if she loves her job then of course she “can’t wait”. If she loved weave so much just for the heck of it, she could have kept it in or put a wig over it even during her vacation time at home. And let’s not forget that models often have their hair styled constantly by white stylists who know nothing about black… Read more »

Modeling isn’t all fun and games. Being a model can be stressful trying to keep weight down and maintain a certain standard of mainstream beauty. You have to deal with people constantly criticizing your body. “Your waist is too wide”- “your nose is too big” “Can you look less Ethnic?” “can you lose a few more pounds?” “Sorry, but you’re just not the look we’re going for.” AND YES these quotes were actually said to real life models–Behind closed doors, these models are starving themselves, abusing drugs to take away the mental stress of this hectic lifestyle and let’s not… Read more »

All of you negative Nancy’s are probably just jealous of her… We can’t say oh she looks nice, it’s always a snarky underhanded comment.

Black women make me sick sometimes and I’m a black woman. Always with the crabs in a barrel mentality, whether we’re natural then “we all” hate weaved women who rarely showcase their natural hair. OR all of the relaxed women speak negatively about natural heads.

Why can’t we take things as they are? Rather than dissecting each other like we’re test animals to be criticized.

The woman who was talking about how Black women seem to only bash other Black women with only negative or “dissecting” comments is absolutely right! There needs to be MUCH MORE solidarity among us. And those of you who had a problem with that comment (especially that girl punctuating her “counterattack” with those incredibly simplistic “boos” and “sweeties” — such abysmal simplicity; we’ve got to do better) .… Let’s just say the truth can scrape the skin off.
