M: Hello, my name is Ezinne, but most folks call me Ezi. I currently reside in the great city of Brooklyn, New York. I just moved out here and I am loving it! I am currently finishing up my undergrad. I am studying Broadcast Journalism/Communications. I write poetry and I enjoy doing and listening to spoken word.
What is your style philosophy?
M: My style is ever-changing, I get inspired everyday by different types of people. I just wear whatever I’m comfortable in and own it. I’m not too conscious if others like it or not because it’s my self expression.
How would you describe your sense of style?
M: I feel like my style resembles an afro-Latina woman in the 1940s — 1960s because I wear a lot of patterns that consists of different colors and I love shoulder pads. I think they create structure for one’s figure, so I really appreciate a good shoulder padded piece. Simply put, I guess I am vintage.
What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
M: I don’t really have a process, I just grab and go and that always works the best. I realized that whenever I tried to put an outfit together it ends up looking horrible, so I just freestyle.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
M: 1. My brown sneakers from Zara.
2. A green thrifted blazer that I haven’t worn yet.
3. My army jacket also thrifted.
What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
M: I like some of Zara’s stuff and Forever 21 for basics, but I mostly live in thrift shops. They have thee best exclusive pieces.
How long have you been natural?
M: I’ve been natural for about 2 years now.
How and why did you transition into natural hair?
M: It didn’t take me that long to transition into natural hair because I knew I had to. My hair was breaking from all the perming. I would say I transitioned for about 3 months.
What is your signature hairstyle?
M: My hair is kind of funky right now because it’s in kind of a high top, so I just do a braid out to get the texture I want. It’s my signature hairstyle.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
E: Because my hair is in a high top I can’t really do too much to the back, but when I wanna be fancy I just moisturize my hair and move it in a circular motion to get really tight curls. I shampoo once every 3 months and I co wash every two weeks. I use Cantu Shea Butter as my leave-in and olive oil as my daily moisturizer. As far as maintaining my style, I just got a hair cut, even though it was supposed to be a shape up. I basically try to keep the top high and the sides low, kind of a boxy look.
