Blue Ivy’s Fro on Display in Spain

Avatar • Sep 2, 2013

Well, Blue Ivy is quite the jet setter! She was seen boarding a yacht in Spain with her famous mom hours after the wrap of Jay-Z’s Made in America festival in Philadelphia. Blue Ivy’s tightly curly fro was on full display, and it’s refreshing to see that Mama Bey is letting the curls just be what they are!

OK!! I’ll be the first to say it here.…This child looks like she just rolled outta bed and her mom should have/could have packed a tiny spray bottle filled with WATER…a few spritz and finger styling made easy and the cute coils would have been ready for what ever was going to go down. That’s what I do with my “bed head”..a few sprays from my trusted water bottle and I am on my way to my favorite style of the day. I even do this while on vacation!. Just plain water works miracles and I would not have known… Read more »

I think you guys are not reading what gapch is saying. She is saying that black people get up upset when a black person makes fun of natural hair to a white audience (Sheryl Underwood). However, on this forum, nearly every day, there is a black person saying to another black person that their natural hair is “ugly”, “unkempt”, “unhealthy” because it is in its natural state. Now think back to Sheryl Underwood. What could have possibly made her hate her natural hair and black features so much? I bet it was other black people (family, friends, etc…) who told… Read more »

I think people’s children should be off limits. I can’t stand when Foxtoons talk about the President’s children, it shouldn’t be any different with Beyonce. Frankly, I don’t know what the big deal is anyways. She’s a baby and so what? Do we talk this sh..t when Sarah Jessica Parker is out with her children, does she get the same scrutiny about her children’s hair? People need to stop judging and let others live their lives in peace. Leave the kids alone.

I don’t think it’s that serious. She’s a baby, there are far more important things to be concerned with. She is letting Blue Ivey’s hair do what it does naturally? What’s wrong with that? I think it looks fine just the way it is but at the end of the day, our approval is not important. Live and let live. Things don’t have to be that serious, so normal, so proper, jut let things be.

How do you know she didn’t do her hair? Perhaps this is how Blue’s hair naturally fell after being styled. Mum could have spritz it with the usual concoction in the morning and this is the result.

I think people are being too critical. The baby’s hair is still growing and finding itself. They are going on a bloody boat to chill! She doesn’t need to be all curled & defined. I’m sure beyonce knows what she’s doing, come on! Not to mention, look at the context; Blue’s in her night clothes. Maybe she just woke up.

it’s a matter of your own opinion, but i didn’t think her hair looks bad. every hair type is different, and for all you know, maybe they DID spray something on their child’s hair. it looks fine just the way it is, in my mind. my son has the kinda hair that no matter what you put on it, there is no definition of any kind and further, it’ll just end up dry-looking within minutes of you applying it. a large part of that though is because, being a two-year-old, he’s going to rub his hair up against some of… Read more »

Have you judgmental pricks stopped to consider that at that age some children hate having their hair done? For those of you who have children I am sure your kids hair is not always neatly done but the difference is you don’t have cameras following you around. ICDAM with the comments saying she neglected the kids appearance but not hers, we must be looking at different pictures b/c since when does poom-poom shorts, a tee shirt and matted weave = dressed to the nines? I don’t like the fact that they don’t do the babies hair. It’s not about it being perfect or anything like that. There is nothing wrong with this childs hair. My son has hair similar to this, i detangle in the bathtub and moisturize after he gets out and leave it at that. Sometimes I twist it but I mostly just let it fly free and there is nothing wrong with that. Plus They are babies they aren’t going to tolerate much hair manipulation. Who has time to struggle with a baby/toddler every single day?

I have a 2 year old and her hair is crazy curly. Yes I like it when her hairs all neat but that’s almost impossible. I won’t battle making twists or plaits every day (doesn’t last longer then that) and besides she doesn’t even like it. As long as her hairs healthy, and I believe in low manipulation so why not

If Jay Z and Beyonce are going to look fabulous all the time they should do the same with Blue Ivy. She is just a baby, I understand that, but don’t dress yourself like gold and then forget to dress the baby in the morning. Honestly, I think these pictures show that Beyonce would have NO idea how to do her own hair or dress herself without her entourage of stylist. Your children/family are a reflection of yourself.

Jesse

You people are so damn shallow saying that Bey NEGLECTS her child because she wants to let the child’s hair be. Have you ever considered that babies don’t like being manipulated, especially their hair? Babies just like to play. I know you all like to manipulate your curls to some 3a looking texture, but this family obviously sees that the happiness and comfort of the child is more important than looking neat and proper for the sharks (paparazzi, you shallow people, etc…).

The archives on this website are extensive and anyone can just do a simple website search and pull up TONS of articles on products, home mixtures, styles, hair-science, etc. Years worth of things. Why should her mom care so much what people think about her hair? Her hair looks healthy enough. If she were mine, she would just have a onesie and probably some socks. No tight as braids or barrettes or whatever the kempt people do. Why make a kid feel uncomfortable to please you, the viewing public? That child is a baby, a toddler. THe baby is adorable, and I am all for natural hair, but she should comb and braid the babies hair. I am not saying anything is wrong with that style, but she is a baby. Matted hair is harder to comb through. I am grown and tender — headed and when I have to comb through my hair, which is very thick and curly, I want to roll up in a ball and cry. The baby is not going to enjoy having her hair combed.

I am an african. And in Africa we don’t relax our little girls hair at least until they are 14 or 15 years old. I was quite shocked to discover that in America, afro-american mothers start relaxing their daughters hair as soon as 3 years old, because they find it hard to deal with it. There is a positive point in saying that Beyonce did well by letting her daughters’ hair grow naturally, but as an african I would say, this is a neglected hair. Thank you! Having an opinion should be allowed the baby is a little cutie pie. But, her hair does look messy. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but, that what I see when I look at the photo.

No she doesn’t have to have 1000 barrettes or tons of braids to make it acceptable. It just looks like today nothing was done for whatever reason. AND yes it happens AND yes it’s okay if that what mommy decides to do.

I think some of just us expect more because of who her parents are.…

Blue’s hair is clearly tangled, dry, and knotted up. That’s evident. This is not the only picture of her hair- there have been several pics- heck, every pic of Blue (with the exception of the newborn ones) showed a little Blue Ivy w/ dry tangled coils. How difficult is it to put a little oil, water, shea butter and a brush to it? If Beyonce’s not gonna do her hair, why not put a cute little hat on her? Blue’s not even my daughter and I’m embarrassed for her.

You can have an opinion all day long, but this girl is on a yacht in Spain. I’m sure no one here knows what its like to be surprise photographed at any moment in time while you go about your day. She’s a little kid and I’m sure when you were little your hair and probably your mama’s hair was not in tip top shape 24/7. I think she’s cute and I don’t mind her hair being in its natural state. People do go crazy defending all things Beyonce, but I don’t think this is one of those moments.

First of all, many of you need to relax your attitudes (no pun intended). Second, all of the criticisms spark a situation. Yes, Blue Ivy’s hair is tangled. No, that doesn’t mean you have to be negative about it. This sparks a whole new level of natural beauty and children. I’m still trying to figure out what the difference is between Blue’s hair and tight, kinky hair post wash n go, tight kinky coily hair 2/3 days after a twist out and even tight, kinky coily hair when rocking a twist out (for some of us). No tight, kinky coily haired chick (as I am) should be calling her hair tangled and matted — what does YOUR hair look like when rocking the above styles? Bet you it looks very close to Blue’s (especially if you have her length).

The reason that most of us are on a natural hair blog is so that we can learn from each other better ways to care for our hair, because, culturally, black women haven’t known how to care for their natural hair. That being said, why does everyone presume that just because Beyonce is wealthy that she naturally knows how to care for her child’s natural hair, when she wears her hair processed and under weaves?

cacey

because it’s a lil irrelevant in light of the fact that even if she doesn’t know how to care for natural hair, she can easily employ a team of highly paid professionals who do know. not to mention solange’s hair is well-cared for, best i can tell. it would be all too easy for her to ask her sister, i imagine. and i think we tend to too easily assume that just because someone wears weave they automatically can’t know how to maintain their hair underneath. this is a flawed assumption.

So the other side of that is, why would anyone presume she DOESN’T know how to care for her child’s hair, simply because as a performing, she choosing to wear weaves and wigs? The child’s hair looks fine to me, and is exactly the way my daughter’s hair looked at here age…right after I brushed it.

There’s really nothing wrong with Blue Ivy hair because she’s still a baby , but as she gets a little older.… maybe 3 or 4 Beyonce really needs to think about at least combing it or brushing it maybe putting a bow or something in it. Because if she continue to not do anything to it…it will start breaking and be damage. Baby’s can have damage hair to for not taking care of it.

Big assumptions being made once again. While you might want to fill that child’s hair with product (i.e. your reference to moisturizers), the child’s hair is just like every other natural haired adult. I am positive it gets combed or brushed, and then does exactly what it wants to do because of it’s length and texture.

Now, go back and read what you said. It’s not about moisturization as you claim, but is about giving the child a style that YOU find pleasing. Again, you cannot possibly know from a picture what is or is not added to any child’s hair, and her hair style does not have to please you. It just has to be something her parents find presentable. That works for me, and there no reason why it shouldn’t work for you, other than your own personal arrogance.

Go back and look at any of the 4b/4c women featured on this website. Not one of them has hair that “looks” any more moisturized than this child’s hair. This is a non issue, made an issue because far too many naturals feel like they should be able to tell someone else what to do with their child’s hair. That is arrogance.

Good assessment.

The baby looks like a baby. We don’t know what time of day it was. Black people have to stop giving our kids traction alopecia (braiding, combing, brushing) and chemical relaxers and burns (pressing) our CHILDREN’s hair in order for them to look “presentable”. We have a deep seated pathololgy when a BABY can’t just look like a baby. I mean dang. As long as her hair is clean and moisturized (please remember that afro textured hair doesn’t reflect light like straightened hair does and that is why “black” hair care products are loaded with petroleum and silicon becuase we… Read more »

LOL Whatever adorable Blue Ivy’s hair looks like — Jay‑Z is definitely her father! She is the spitting image!

Yup, just like beautiful Christy Brinkley’s daughter looks just like her ugly father, Billy Joel.
Tough luck, Bey. There are still some things in this world that money or fame just cannot buy.

My daughter’s curly hair didn’t see a pony tail holder until she was 2 and had a so much hair that it would get way too tangled if left out all of the time. Before then, or church or formal family pics, I would just put a hair band on her. Just hanging out at park, at store, etc, she would simply rock her curly-qs like Blue. And yes it was moisturized and detangled but curly hair tangles and 3c+ hair lacks glossy shine. It is what it is.

Leave Blue alone and let her be fab

I’m sorry no one thought you were an attractive child, but that doesn’t mean you have to take it out on this child, simply because she is the child of a celebrity.

It is interesting to see ppl argue over both sides. On one hand you have ppl saying baby Blu and her hair is fine in these pics and that braiding would mess her hair up because she is so young. Then on the other hand you have ppl saying that Beyonce should at least brush it or comb it. Judging by the photos, that little girls hair has not been maintained at all. There is nothing wrong with having an afro or any other natural style but look she has going looks like a birds nest. With having natural hair… Read more »

Has not been maintained at all? You have seen a precious few pictures, and yet feel emboldened to make such a statement? This is where the ridiculousness of the internet and women in general’s need to attack anyone who doesn’t follow their way of thinking, collide. That child’s hair is just fine, and will continue to be just fine such she has the best of care. That is one blessed child.

sorry but blue ivy is a young pretty version of jayz now but that will be a weird looking child as she gets older, long arms and lanky funny made legs , big lips and a funny shaped head . jayz was always this ugly but as he got older, his look is awful so will blue look turn to unbearable. sorry beyonce, i just could not lie. blue so big a gauky now that she don’t look like a danity baby. just unnatural, she looks uncomfortable in baby clothes.

I can’t believe the comments on here. She is a beautiful baby but a lot of the women commenting are critical of a BABY and calling her uncared for, ugly with bad hair!
You lot should look at yourselves, you really should.

The issue is not that Blue is wearing her hair out or that she is not a celebrity so Bey shouldnt care how she looks. yes, she is a baby, so she can go out in some cute jammies and it be perfectly fine. The issu is just that her hair lacks decent grooming. If she is going for the dread look then fine but she is doing more damage by not at least finger coming her hair which will create knots that may be hard to detangle and harder on her hair. I am all for let the curls… Read more »

Well said…exactly…my grandson has a good grain of hair and we just let it be when he is at home…however, if we are going out the house—you can bet your bottom dollar his hair is moisturized and my daughter run her had thru it just to shape it up.…so let her wear it natural but come on Bey…moisturize it…you can afford it!
