Do we mean natural as this is the hair that grows out of her hair natural, or natural as in not chemically processed. Based on the pic, I think Sanaa only fits one those descriptions. Either way, she is gorgeous.

probably as in naturally grown. thats what many consider as natural. many consider chemical free or not relaxed as just that chemical free or not relaxed. everyone has a different definition for the word…

ikr. for some reason all these new naturals on her forgot what permed hair looks like before its flat ironed and have become super judgemental. looks like she took out a weave, washed and blow dried her hair. doesnt look flat ironed or curled yet.…

It looks like it has a bunch or spilt in and kinda uneven and broken off it spots. Some would consider that damage. She needs a trim.

People seem to have a different definition of what they consider to be damaged.

I am a cosmetologist. If I am doing a consultation and I ask if your hair is “natural” I want to know if your hair has any chemicals altering it’s natural texture or curl pattern. I ask other questions to determine if other products are in the hair (i.e. color, etc).

Her hair looks beautiful and healthy. That’s what hair looks like when it is straightened. Just because hair is straightened doesnt mean it is fried and damaged. How can you say something like that from looking at just one picture? Why do we naturals feel the need to judge everyone else’s hair? This is such an unfortunate trait that keeps growing in our community. Let us uplift each other and not spread negativity. She seems to love her hair and thinks it is beautiful. That’s all that matters.

Her hair looks pretty thick and it’s decently long, so I’d assume it’s not too badly heat damaged to the point that it’s significantly breaking, but those ends definitely need some attention.

BGLH be making some women mad when BGLH say a celebrity’s hair is natural or shown natural. Then you got some of those women assuming it’s a weave or relaxed. Who gives a dam! At least the hair looks good.

Lawuan

Her hair looks more like it was blowdried than straighten with a flat iron. Her hair appears to be damage due to it being blown out and her individual hair looks thin but I’m sure in its natural state she probably has a head full of healthy hair. I don’t know of this person at all so I can only make a generalize opinion based on the picture shown above of her.

Sanaa is my idol. She is one of the most gorgeous over 40 women in Hollywood, but, seeing this picture of her hair makes me appreciate the fact that I quit relaxing my own.
I bet she would look even more beautiful wearing her hair in its natural texture.

Bonnie A

I may be wrong but if its not relaxed (which she stated in an interview somewhere) this could be a blow out or press, and the light in the pic makes it look a bit straggly. My hair is very healthy but once I add heat it really straightens very straight like perm press straight.

I hate coming on here because of the defensive comments. One person stated that there are many ways to define natural, uh no. Natural hair is hair that is untreated that is your own. N‑a-t-u-r-a‑l! So I guess those who criticize women who wear weaves/straighten their hair do not wear makeup, wear bras, or do anything that alters your appearance because you embrace all that is natural on you, right? If so, then more power to you. Otherwise, I do not see how you have room to criticize people who wear weaves/straighten their hair. So why do you presume we all have the same kinky hair? Some of us don’t have curls in our hair, and therefore choose to style our hair in a way that is most pleasing to us. Sanaa Lathan’s hair is natural because it is not treated by chemical agents that straighten the hair. Blow drying and/or ironing the hair is a personal choice, and doesn’t change the fact that the hair is still not chemically altered. You need to lighten up, Joe Joe. I personally think the picture is gorgeous. Since when is it wrong for a woman to do what she wants to HER hair. I’m natural, but I am not the type of natural that says everybody and their mama is wrong for not wanting to be natural. Natural hair is a TON of work, and some people prefer to perm that hair. Anyway, I do feel that while I may be healthy, it does not look healthy to Me. About 3 or more inches need to be cut off. The ends look dead. Oh! Maybe that’s what she mean the toll of wearing weaves so much is a killa. If so, I agree.

Yeah I get it lol it look full like a weave. But ppl confuse natural. Natural is your own hair is the hair on your head looks no relaxer. Nothing that don’t permanently change your hair texture. I get that nobody ain’t satisfied with the hair god gave them because that would mean no brushing, combing or styling your hair. You can’t touch or manipulate your hair includes no washing which is nasty… But that is real natural hair. Do not style your hair.

Beautiful pic; Sanaa is a naturally pretty woman.

With that being said, it’s sad that a picture can’t be shown without it being dissected down to whether someone has single strand knots or needs a trim. There are so many more important issues in life. You can’t not judge a person’s inward belief system solely based on hair choices. If we as naturals are supposed to be so “pro-black” why are so many people (not all) so hateful in their responses. Another thing is that unless you’ve touched Sanaa’s hair or are employed with the job of caring for it you have no idea what’s going on with it. It’s just a picture one aspect of the primary signal system. It’s unfair to say that her hair is damaged it may appear to your eyes to… Read more »

Here we go with the HAIR POLICE. Judging others who relax, color, braid, weave their hair. I’m natural but according to the HAIR POLICE, I’m not because I like to color, braid, weave and sometimes straighten my hair. It’s not up to you to judge me. I feel that if you don’t us the creamy crack then your’re natural. And if you choose to relax your hair. Then that’s your choice. Do what makes you happy.

After I went natural, I hated it when other naturals blow dried and straightened their beautiful curls. Now that I’ve been relaxer free for close to 3 year, I know that straightening it temporarily is just another way to wear it.
