Introduce yourself!
N: My name is Natasha Malone and I’m from Arlington, VA.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
N: I went natural because I lost a lot of hair due to breakage from texlaxing my hair. I have been natural now for about 10 years.
How would you describe your texture?
N: I am not exactly sure what my texture is… I know I have multi-textured hair. My hair is thin, but there is a lot of it. It’s very curly in middle and the front seems to have the loosest curls. The curls are loose in the back as well.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
N: For the most part I keep my hair in protective styles. I either wear a lot of two strand twists or twist outs. I also love rocking buns. Big buns on top of my head lol. When I’m not rocking my own hair I keep my hair in twists and change my hair up by wearing wigs or braids.
I love the As I Am line. All of their products are so amazing and can be used to achieve different styles. I also use the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo and Leave-in Conditioner. I also love their deep conditioner, the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment.
What does wash day look like for you?
N: I start my wash day off by prepooing with coconut oil, then I wash only my scalp with watered down sulfate free shampoo. (Right now I’m using the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo.) So, I wash my hair with shampoo, then I deep condition with Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayo or Hydration Elation Intensive Conditioner by As I Am. (Smells and feels wonderful). If my hair feels drier than usual I’ll make a homemade Greek yogurt deep conditioner, then put my hair in a plastic cap and leave that on for however long. I then rinse and air dry with four, two strand twists.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
N: Honestly, I cheat lol. I wear wigs or extensions often. So, usually when I don’t feel like fooling with my hair it either goes in a bun on top of my head or I will put it in a few two strand twists and wear a wig.
How do you combat shrinkage?
N: My hair stays in two strand twists a lot so, that’s usually how I combat shrinkage.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
N: My problem areas would be the top of my head where I’ve lost a lot of hair due to postpartum shedding, and my nape as well because it seems to be the driest part of my hair.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
N: Two Do’s for my hair are to have a great moisture/protein balance and always keep the hair in stretched styles.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
N: Two Don’ts are wash and go’s (even though I love them), they are a nightmare to detangle, and not keeping your hair moisturized and sealed because my hair gets very dry and breaks off.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
N: I am working on starting a natural hair blog or YouTube channel. I will keep everyone updated about it. Thank you 🙂

FAB! Represent the dmv!
Hair twinsie! Lol. It’s reassuring to see other women on show who’s hair isn’t abundantly thick yet still beautiful all the same.
You are fab! There’s something about you that reminds me if that girl that played Fresh’s sister in the movie Fresh. I think her real name is N’bushey…not sure though. But yeah fabulous!!
What a beautiful woman and hair 🙂
Gurl you look like an African Queen in that second picture of you with those ‘Poetic Justice’ braids. Gorgeous!
Thank you for this. It was refreshing to see someone with hair like mine. I can relate so much to the no wash and go’s! It is hard because I also like wearing my hair out, but with our thin strands protective styling works best to avoid the crazy matting and tangling.
I’m so proud of u girl :)….I love how u going natural…Yur pics r so beautiful…Keep up yur good work hun…love u…black girls rock!!
What beautiful hair!!!! Love the texture and the shine #HairCrush
Very sweet likeable face. Great hair and very fit!
10 years is a long time. there’s nothing wrong with wearing a wig every once in awhile. I give you props for staying committed and your box braid updo is really cool.
