Introduce yourself!
L: My name is Leanora Haselrig. I’m from Johnstown, PA and currently live in West Palm Beach, FL.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
L: I’ve been natural all my life, but I wasn’t always a fan of my curly hair. In high school the flat iron became my best friend and the summer I graduated I discovered it was actually my worst enemy. One hot summer day I washed my hair to bring my curls back to life only to be left with sad, loose, lanky curls and disappointment. I had heat damage, severe heat damage. I brought product, after product to try and achieve the curls I once had. “Curl Activator” this “Hair Curling” product, nothing worked. It took 2.5 years of tender loving hair care and a very limited amount of heat use for my curls to bounce back. I know now to use the flat iron in moderation.
How would you describe your texture?
L: My hair is full and thick, but my ends are fine. The diameter of my curls are about the same size as a pencil, so I’d say my curl pattern is 3c.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
L: I love my big hair. I always wear it out and let it fro freely. I wash n go every 4 to 5 days with the products listed below. I use L’Oreal EverCurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner once a week and co-wash with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner.
What does wash day look like for you?
L: I section my hair into 4 parts and wash each part with the L’Oreal EverCurl Hydracharge Cleansing Conditioner. Then I detangle and condition with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner, twist and rinse each part, apply Kinky Curly Knot Today, Curls Curl Crème Brule and recently started using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie because of the humidity in South Florida. I seal with coconut oil and aloe vera gel. Oh and I FINGER detangle! The comb and I have parted ways. I lose less hair finger combing.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
L: On the rare occasion that my fro doesn’t agree with being free, I’ll wear a low ponytail or a high bun.
How do you combat shrinkage?
L: I don’t, I just let it be.
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
L: My ends are fine so I have to be careful when detangling, and sometimes the headrest in my car makes an indent in my hair, so I have to be mindful of that when getting out of the car.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
L: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Be careful when detangling.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
L: Don’t use shampoo, if you do, limit the usage to once a month.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

Thanks love 🙂
You and your hair are gorgeous 🙂
I love her big hair!
Very NICE hair!
pretty
Major curl envy…! Very pretty.
gorgeous grl and hair!
Very nice hair and very pretty girl!
I’m honestly confused about hair typing. I have the exact same hair pattern, but I describe my hair as 4a. However, I can’t do wash n gos every day (though I use to) and my hair is coarse. I use many of the same products though. Sorry to hijack thread with my confusion. My confusion doesn’t make her hair anymore beautiful!
I was thinking the same thing!!! My hair is similar but I always thought of 3c hair as finer hair. I’m still pretty new to this and just did my chop after 16 month like 2 weeks ago. I think my hair is 4a/4b but it looks just like your. NOT THAT HAIR TYPING SYSTEM IS THE BIBLE, (had to say that before someone gets crazy on me) but for someone that is still very new, I personally look for people with similar hair to myself for ideas, and inspiration. Anyway you are very beautiful with the hair to match.
I understand what you mean, I just big chopped a few weeks ago (after transitioning) and I’m still learning about my hair. Just remember that curl pattern is very different than texture. You may have the same pattern, but have different textures. You can be a 3c spongy,3c silky..look into those terms and see if that helps! 🙂
I guess just goes to show how unique everyone’s hair is and that some types are not explicitly obvious.
I agree with you Theatergirl, I think the texture has confused the posters above. Her curls are bigger than 4a curls in the pics where she has defined them. She wears an undefined look but people are so used to 3c being represented by the Miss Jessie’s type with super defined curls. Her texture definitely looks spongy/Afro rather than silky or thready. You can still have fine hair and not be a 3 anything, not sure why anyone would associate fine, medium, coarse or wiry with certain hair textures when any texture can have these characteristics.
OMG I never heard of 3c spongy or 3c silky but that seems right. My hair has the pattern but not the texture. I’m sure there’s more but thank you that makes sense. Do you know where I can read about this? Thank you ladies for all the replys. I have been educated today 🙂
Take a look at this! It helped me. 🙂 http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/visual-examples-of-textures-and-types-complete_topic326012.html
proof that hair typing is pointless yet again. worry about the health not hair type
Tina Smith, is that really you? What happened to your CAPS LOCK button? 😉
that can’t be her. has to be another one lol.
I want to see a pic of Tina Smith..she should submit an article on this site…here’s the title ..Tina Smith AKA the necessary evil…the woman and hair behind the CAPS! Who agrees with me??
Must be her because now she’s all lower case.
I think people just misunderstand the charts. Read more into it than is there…the original charts only talked about curl pattern (size and shape) not about texture really or mixtures of textures (course vs thin etc).
you are such a beauty! love your hair!
I think that you are my hair twin. I also consider myself 3C.
Lol. She’s my hair twin also. My hair looks exactly like that. Out of all the hair style icons I saw her hair describes mine to the T. Also she’s a beautiful lady.
She’s so pretty
Absolutely stunning!
her hair is definitely 4a because its just like mine. i think people get confused by this hair typing system and automatically think that anything in the 4 family means lack of a curl pattern. everyone tries to somehow fit themselves in the 3s.
She’s definitely not 4a. Her curl pattern is larger and more loose than 4a curls/coils.
This girl is Gorgeous! You look more mature in the second pic with the make-up on.…in the other pics you look so fresh faced and young. Love love love the hair and all the pics.
4a hair
