When did you and your husband meet?
P: My husband and I met during GHOE – The Greatest Homecoming on Earth at our alma mater, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (AGGIE PRIDE!) in October of 2010. We both had the same circle of friends, but failed to cross paths personally until one of our good friends asked for us all to be in a picture together. Once the picture was posted on Facebook, we both realized we knew everyone in the picture but we didn’t know one another. He messaged me along the lines of “it was nice meeting you…” and I replied the same, and from there blossomed a beautiful friendship turned love affair.
When and where did you get married?
P: We wed on June 29th at the Grand Marquise Ballroom in Garner, NC.
How was your big day?
P: Our big day was beyond any expectations that we could ever place on it. It was magical; perfect even. From the “getting ready” phase, to the ceremony itself, all the way to the reception we had not one hiccup or regret. It flowed smoothly! Our hashtag for the wedding was #LWOE (Livest Wedding On Earth) and it truly lived up to its name! We had friends and family from everywhere join in on the festivities and let’s just say the after party was even poppin’! It was a great time with great people!
How did you wear your hair?
P: I decided to pin up the back by creating an extra large flat twist that created a curve and flowed into the top part of my hair, which was cascading with curls that fell toward my face.
What was your process of deciding how to style your hair?
P: For our special day, I knew I wanted to have some of my hair out (my husband LOVES my hair out), but I didn’t want to be bothered by it much. I also knew that I would be doing my hair myself, so of course it would have to be something I was comfortable recreating for both my bridal shoot and my actual wedding day. North Carolina in the summer is HUMIDITY CENTRAL and although the wedding was indoors I didn’t want to risk my hair for the sake of any pictures that we would take inside or outside! My sides are shaved and I also wanted to showcase those so this hairstyle definitely allowed for my personality to show through!
How did your family/husband/guests receive your hair at the wedding?
P: I received a lot of compliments on my hair. It complimented my whole look and wasn’t very fussy. My husband’s only request was that I wear it in its natural state and not straight. I could respect that request because when we met the ‘fro is what he was most attracted to, so why switch it? I wanted that same reaction he had that first time he saw me to be the same one he had when he first saw me coming down the aisle. Let’s just say it worked like magic!
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
P: I like to hangout at my blog www.steelfeatherlaceelephant.com and I don’t mind having company at all! Come visit!
*sobs* I just *sobs again*

Ahhhhhh!!!!! That’s my beautiful cousin!!! The marriage ceremony was lovely and really had lots of their personality in it!! Her hair and dress were def on point. Pray all the best for them 🙂
Beautiful! She and her new husband look so happy and wonderful. I hope they feel that way for the rest of their lives together!
Also, I love wedding features on here because a. All the feels (I may or may not tear up every time I see any weddig pictures…) and b. When I was struggling with my hair I dreaded having to get my hair done up for an event, and now that I’m at the age of bridesmaid-ing and (hopefully) meeting and marrying someone of my own, it’s really great to get some inspiration!
I love the pic with them laughing. Making each other laugh like that is what will keep them married and in love through the years. Congratulations.
Even though I am a Ram at WSSU, just down the road from NC A&T, I must admit this is the cutest and most stylish natural hair bride I’ve seen! You looked flawless Phylicia! #ILOVEMYHBCU
