H: Holly Ann Clayton (Freedom). Freedom is my alter ego last name.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
H: I’ve been natural my whole life. My mother didn’t wanna put that “creamy crack” in my hair.
How would you describe your texture?
H: My hair is a mixture between 3c and 4a, the majority of it is 3c. My hair behaves well when tamed lol and it’s ridiculously THICK!
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
H: My hair regime varies. Most of the time you can catch my hair in a bun or a french twist just because I get lazy and they’re quick easy styles. My go to products are Aunt Jackie’s Knot on My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy, Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control, EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La Defining Curl Custard.
What does wash day look like for you?
H: Lately I’ve been using the Shea Moisture line and unfortunately I’m finding their products to be a little drying to the hair. So I add a little extra virgin olive oil to the conditioner. I tend to co-wash most of the time. Once I feel like my hair has a lot of build up, I’ll pre-poo using the Shea Moisture line.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
H: Go to style? Hands down “Ninja Bun”.
How do you combat shrinkage?
H: I really don’t have too much shrinkage, so I embrace it!
What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
H: Areas that I used to have to pay a lot of attention to were the nape of my neck. Now that is shaved off. I find the back of my hair to be a little dry though, so I make sure to keep that area extra moisturized.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
H: Do two strand twist.
