Introduce yourself!
A: Hi! I’m Akila and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a personal style blog, onacruz.blogspot.com and I love anything artistic. I’m really into making music, writing stories, and drawing or painting.
What is your style philosophy?
A: I try not to wear what everyone else is wearing unless I can make it look significantly different or if I just can’t help it. I also always wear what I like and always try to be comfortable, if I’m not comfortable a wardrobe malfunction is always around the corner.
How would you describe your sense of style?
A: I think my style is pretty at ease in a sense but also eclectic because I’m always getting inspiration from everywhere. It’s also very 90’s inspired.
What is your process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
A: If I don’t have an outfit picked out already, I usually just choose one item when I wake up and build an outfit around it, nothing too drastic. I usually find that I have to plan outfits the night before or else I’ll end up being late to wherever I’m going.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
A: This is a tough one, for now I’d have to say my turtleneck hounds-tooth crop top, a thrifted velvet blouse, and my Dr. Martens – I probably wear my Doc’s over 20 times a month no joke.
What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
A: I really like Romwe.com, it’s street-fashion based and I can spend hours just browsing the site. A few other ones would be Necessary Clothing for everything, Forever 21 for dresses, shoes, and accessories, and LoveCulture for basics. But for the most part I thrift at random shops.
How long have you been natural?
A: I’ve always been natural but for the last few years I’ve actually been paying attention to my hair.
What is your signature hairstyle?
A: My signature hairstyle would be a twist out in a high pony/puff.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
A: I usually co-wash my hair every two weeks, usually after a wash I twist it up for a day, take out the twists the day after and re-twist using Shea butter to stretch my hair. In between that time I try to moisturize every two days or whenever my hair feels dry.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
A: Yes! You can find me at onacruz.blogspot.com or check out my Tumblr and Lookbook.
