Introduce yourself!
J: Hello, My name is Jacobi or Cobi as I’m also known as. I’m from a little town called Neptune, New Jersey.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
J: I have been natural for years but I straightened my hair on a weekly basis to have the silky straight look. No one even knew I was natural. I decided to embrace my natural texture when I started sweating every day from working out and stepping. I was nervous about my texture and how to manage it. Because of the heat damage I started to just slowly cut off a little hair at a time. I became a born again natural and I LOVEEEEEEEEE it.
How would you describe your texture?
J: Hmmmm my texture is confusing, it is a mixture of 4a, 4b, and 3c. The front is looser that the back and the sides just do their own thing. I have to handle each part differently. Joys of natural hair. NEVER boring!
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
J: My regimen consists of weekly 8 hour deep conditioning session with Shea Moisture deep treatment masque and co washing with Tresemme Naturals . I rarely use shampoo unless I have a lot of buildup. Every week after I pamper it with the DC, I alternate between twist outs and up dos. When I wear my twist outs, I rock that during the work week and then on the weekend I make it either funky or edgy. I put in a high wild bun, braided head band, or I just throw on a dope turban.
Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style?
J: My Fav Go-to Style is a High Bun with big chunky earrings. I mist my hair with water, olive oil, and Glycerin Mix, Leave in conditioner Shea Moisture restorative conditioner and Eco Styler Gel. I secure it with a regular black shoe string and bobby pins. Sometimes I will even put the bun to the side of my head. What I love about buns are that they don’t have to be perfect.
How do you combat shrinkage?
J: My hair doesn’t shrink as much as I would like. However, when I want to really stretch my hair without heat, I band my hair which is when I place into 3 pony tails with ponytail holders on the ends and let air dry. Sometimes I also do about 8 loose 2 strand twist in my hair to stretch.
What are 2 do’s for your texture?
J: For my texture and all textures it is important to apply a lot of moisture. I usually apply some type of moisture daily or every other day. Whether it is water or a moisturizer. Moisture is the Key! The 2nd to do is protective stylign for me, sometimes my hair just needs a break.
What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
I cannot comb my hair when dry, it will pop off. I also do not manipulate my hair a lot. I like to do a lot protective style.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?

my hair color is lightest blonde box color, clairol. It is just a small section the front corner of my hair. I wanted a like spazazz with out dying my whole hair.
she’s gorgeous! And her hair is really deliciously beautiful too!
thanks so much!
Cobi you are absolutely adorable! Great hair, style and interview. Also it’s the first time I’ve read ‘my hair doesn’t shrink as much as I would like’.
Thanks!
I know its soo weird, I like what I called the “magic effect”. When there is alot of shrinkage and then when you pull your hair its like wow I didnt know her hair was that long.

awww thanks!
In your second to last picture — I LOVE the hair and the earrings! 1) How did you do that swirled updo with the scarf, and 2) where did you get those earrings?? 🙂
thanks Kassie!
for the front bun style i sectioned out a bang in the front. i then stuffed my hair under a scarf and did like a big flat bantu knot in the front. i then took the bang and wrapped around the out side of the knot. it is very simple.
earrings- i got these years ago at a vendor show.
Thank you for the info! I’ll try this sometime soon.
In LOVE with your gorgeous, thick hair!***
thanks!!!!
