Introduce yourself!
M: Hi! My name is Mishijah. I live in the Atlanta area and I am a student at the University of West Georgia!
How long have you been natural?
M: Believe it or not I have never had a perm! But I used to straighten my hair so much that the heat damage began to take its toll on my hair. My hair became very thin and stringy so I decided to stop applying heat in April 2011.
How and why did you transition into natural hair?
M: I realized how warped my view of my beauty and hair was. I thought I only looked presentable if my hair was blown straight; and that was a problem for me. I was letting my hair regulate too many aspects of my life, especially working out and staying fit. I didnโt want to work out because I didnโt want to sweat my press out. It took me gaining the freshmen 15+ to finally say enough is enough.
What are your must-have products for shampooing, conditioning and styling your hair?
M: For shampooing right now I am in love with Shea Moistureโs Curl and Shine Shampoo. It leaves my hair very soft and moisturized after a wash. I usually wash my hair every 2 weeks. As far as conditioners, Iโm still jumping from product to product, but I have been using Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner and so far itโs pretty good and smells amazing. For styling, shea butter and Eco Styler Gel are def my staple products!
What is your signature hairstyle?
M: Right now Iโm loving braid outs, but usually Iโll do some type of bun maybe with Marley braiding hair or a regular bun with my own hair!
Did going natural affect your style choices at all?
M: Iโve always deemed myself as stylish, but I must admit since embracing my natural hair Iโve become a lot bolder with my style choices.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
M: Because itโs summer, the first would be my wedges. I love heels, but theyโre a killer on my feet! I can wear wedges all day long and still get that haute look! Second would be my high-low skirts. Iโve been buying skirts from the thrift store all summer and cutting them myself! I love that trend. Third, would be my black Jeffrey Campbell Lita look-alikes. (tehehe) These shoes are my babies. I love that I can wear them year round.
How would you describe your personal style?
M: I think my personal style reflects my natural hair. Itโs multifaceted! I love rocking many styles from vintage to business professional to BoHo. It solely depends on the day and how Iโm feeling!
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
M: Yes, I have a blog dedicated to both Natural Hair and Fashion! http://kinksandfashion.blogspot.com/ and my Twitter is http://es.twitter.com/#!/IAmTheCrowd
