Introduce yourself!
J: My name is Jorie-Anne. I reside and rep Houston, Texas. Right now I am a College student. I am an Artist, so I do a lot of artwork such as drawing, crafts and all other forms of art.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
J: I decided to go Natural when I noticed the last perm I put in my hair made my hair break off. The back of my hair was extremely short. My hair was breaking really bad and I didn’t know what to do, so I went to a hairstylist to cut off my permed hair. I have been back and forth with perms and natural hair. My last perm was in August 2009.
When and how did you transition into natural hair?
J: While I was transitioning I had sew-ins so the different textures in my hair would be hidden. I completed my transition into natural hair in January 2011 by going to a hairstylist to get my permed ends cut off. I did it at a time when I felt I had enough length in my natural hair so it wouldn’t be too short.
In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
J: Going Natural has really affected me. Natural hair shows my creative side, and my versatile hairstyles define me. My parents always told me that perms weren’t the best thing for my hair, so it really made them happy too that I went natural.
How would you describe your hair?
J: My hair is fine, coarse, thick, curly, and kinky. I think my hair texture is 3C, but I’m unsure.
What is your regimen?
J: I wash my hair every Sunday with Silk Elements Mixed Silk Shampoo and Silk Elements Mixed Silk Nourishing Deep Conditioner. After washing I apply the Mixed Silk Leave-in Conditioner and comb my hair out. Then I section out my hair and braid it or twist it. The moisturizers I use are Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter Whipped Curl Crème and Curl Control Defining Pudding.
How do you retain length and moisture in your hair?
J: How I retain length and moisture in my hair is really by applying leave-in conditioner to the ends of my hair.
What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
J: Not consistently trimming my hair has affected it. I rarely trim my hair, which is horrible. And also letting other people in my hair to cut it.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
