Curlformers work on all textures and lengths (shorter lengths require smaller sized Curlformers) and produce curls that are sleek and Shirley Temple-esque. Curls can either be worn as-is, or brushed out to provide a curly base for other styles, like updos or fro-hawks.

Another style that works well on all lengths and textures — particularly tightly curled textures — are bantu knot outs. You can create curls of any size, depending on how large or small the size of the knots you do. Tutorial is below.
Flat Twist Out
Flat Twists are a great way to produce a uniform texture in natural hair without using any hair tools. But it isn’t as surefire a technique as the other four mentioned. Some naturals find it a reliable way to create curls and waves, others find it doesn’t evenly stretch and curl the hair. You’ll just have to try it and see if it works for you. Tutorial is below.
