Danielle was featured as a Natural Hair Style Icon on October 9, 2011.
Where are you from?
D: I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I’ve lived in Oakland, California for almost all my life.
Did going natural affect your style choices at all?
D: I started experimenting with my style around the same time I went natural, so it didn’t affect my style choices.
How does your hair complement your style?
D: I think my personality and style are complemented very well by my hair; big, bold, and crazy is who I am, how I dress, and how I wear my hair.
How would you describe your style?
D: My style is a creative outlet for me, so my style choices change everyday. Even though I can’t categorize my style, I do think a lot of it is influenced by the Bay Area culture. There is such a large concentration of unique individuals who are free‐spirited and don’t care about being judged. Just like almost everyone else, I was able to create my own unique look. There is no fun in copying fashion trends, the fun starts when you put together questionable pieces and make it work because you said so.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
D: Right now my favorites are my leopard jackets, my collection of graphic tees, and my cigarette skinny jeans.
What are your three must‐have items of clothing?
D: My must‐haves are always a fitted blazer, oversized graphic shirt, and either patterned or colored pants.
You make mixing and matching prints and solids look effortless. What’s your advice for making pieces that don’t necessarily go together, work?
D: When you are mixing and matching prints make sure you focus on their colors. Figure out your color theory and then walk around like you are the hippest person around. Confidence is key. They great thing about women’s fashion is that you wear anything and get away with it, as long as you feel as cool as you look.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D: My daily fashion blog: everybodydiesss.blogspot.com
