Introduce yourself!
D: My name is Danielle and I live in Port Jervis, New York, but I’m reppin’ the BX! I am currently studying fashion design.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
D: I made the decision to go natural once I noticed that rarely anyone I knew was comfortable with it.
When and how did you transition into natural hair?
D: I went natural a year ago. To have a fresh start I shaved half of my hair for a little while. A week later I cut it all off and started brand new.
In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
D: Going natural brought out how truly beautiful I am. It brought to my attention that I do not need to wear extensions or relax my hair to be, or feel beautiful. I am a goddess either way.
How would you describe your hair?
D: My hair is very thin. I’m not very satisfied, but I’m fine with it. The texture of it is very coarse and it reacts horribly to heat and cold weather. I am in the process of growing it out longer.
What is your regimen?
D: I currently use Suave shampoo and conditioner. I moisturize my hair every 2 days. To keep my hair healthy I use plenty of hot oil treatments and plenty of conditioner. Using carrot hair oil gives my hair a smooth feel and is very effective for the hair growing process, however too much oil isn’t good for your hair.
Tell us about your hair color?
D: My natural hair color is like a dark brown mixed with a little bit of red and blonde. (The sunlight has to hit it for it to be seen) The hair color I have at this moment is called Auburn. I’ve had plenty of different colors in my hair from aquamarine, magenta, blonde, orange, black and burgundy to strawberry blonde. Every color I’ve had has been done by me at home. I’ve used all different kinds of hair dye products, so many I’ve lost track.
What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
D: I’ve learned that bleach (blonde) is not something to put in your hair. It ruins your hair without you even noticing.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D: Yes, Tumblr: http://dancing-n00dle.tumblr.com
Anything else you want to add?
D: I just want people out there that don’t admire their natural hair to know that no matter the texture, length, or the look of your hair, it’s all beautiful. God gave you what you have for a reason and it should be shown off to the world. Embrace it and love it.
Really love her style and the hair!
Q. Why did you make the decision to go natural?
D: I made the decision to go natural once I noticed that rarely anyone I knew was comfortable with it.
Anyone else think this was a weird reason to go natural? Is Danielle only interested in being natural to shock people, pretty adolescent.
And so what??
Wow. Natural hair police in full effect.
What does it matter to you what her reasons are?
right! why are you so worried about her reasons for going natural?
Yes, I thought it was odd too. But she does enjoy green and magenta hair so she’s one to stand out 🙂 If I saw her in person I would probably be into her style.
Oh, well aren’t you in a judging mood today.
Did I think it was odd? Yes. Adolescent? Not sure about that one. Have you ever heard an artist say “I wanted this music/painting/photograph/etc to spark discussion or to make people uncomfortable”? Or something to that affect? It’s possible that she views her hair the same way. Many artists create/manipulate things to get a reaction out of people or to express a thought in physical form.
Then you would HATE my reason for going natural. I went natural because I found out that a LOT of people hate/despise natural‐haired women. I’m also one of the few naturals who went natural for “shock value” and it’s funny to me.
Funny because I thought it was one of the best articulated answers I’d heard to that question. Challenge the self and society, she stepped out of her comfort zone and challenged the reactions of others, hardly revolutionary, try it.
You’re getting shade because you called her adolescent.….…but it’s not being the hair police to go ‘what?’ at her answer. To be honest, I thought I read her answer wrong and had to read it twice to get her meaning.
i agree with Natalie…it is pretty adolescent. But it’s her choice and at least she was honest 🙂
Not too many people can make green hair look HAWT! Loves it.
@Tahlove: I was thinking the same thing!! She is working that green hair.
Me too! Gorgeous face and great style!
was abit of a blunt answer but understandable… Love her look x
She kept it real and I can tell she doesn’t like to be placed in a box! I respect her style and boldness. Beautiful young lady!
