D: My name is Danielle and I live in Port Jervis, New York, but I’m reppin’ the BX! I am currently studying fashion design.
Why did you make the decision to go natural?
D: I made the decision to go natural once I noticed that rarely anyone I knew was comfortable with it.
When and how did you transition into natural hair?
D: I went natural a year ago. To have a fresh start I shaved half of my hair for a little while. A week later I cut it all off and started brand new.
In what ways (if any) has going natural affected you?
D: Going natural brought out how truly beautiful I am. It brought to my attention that I do not need to wear extensions or relax my hair to be, or feel beautiful. I am a goddess either way.
How would you describe your hair?
D: My hair is very thin. I’m not very satisfied, but I’m fine with it. The texture of it is very coarse and it reacts horribly to heat and cold weather. I am in the process of growing it out longer.
What is your regimen?
D: I currently use Suave shampoo and conditioner. I moisturize my hair every 2 days. To keep my hair healthy I use plenty of hot oil treatments and plenty of conditioner. Using carrot hair oil gives my hair a smooth feel and is very effective for the hair growing process, however too much oil isn’t good for your hair.
Tell us about your hair color?
D: My natural hair color is like a dark brown mixed with a little bit of red and blonde. (The sunlight has to hit it for it to be seen) The hair color I have at this moment is called Auburn. I’ve had plenty of different colors in my hair from aquamarine, magenta, blonde, orange, black and burgundy to strawberry blonde. Every color I’ve had has been done by me at home. I’ve used all different kinds of hair dye products, so many I’ve lost track.
What mistakes have you made with your hair that you’ve learned from?
D: I’ve learned that bleach (blonde) is not something to put in your hair. It ruins your hair without you even noticing.
Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D: Yes, Tumblr: http://dancing-n00dle.tumblr.com
Anything else you want to add?
D: I just want people out there that don’t admire their natural hair to know that no matter the texture, length, or the look of your hair, it’s all beautiful. God gave you what you have for a reason and it should be shown off to the world. Embrace it and love it.
