I’ve heard alot of things about Curlformers; some people love them others feel they are too harsh on the hair. I just wanted to hear your readers experiences.
Did Curlformers work out for you? What were the pros and cons (if any) of your Curlformers experience? Do they work better on certain hair types? Feel free to share photos 🙂
I tried out a ‘curlformers’ like product and I liked them. I actually do not understand how they could be harsh to hair because all you do is push the hair through the plastic tube. If you do not hook the hair on properly then the hair will not go through but all you have to do is correct it then pull through.
They are much simpler to use compared to conventional rollers
I think that for people who want a heat free way to stretch hair, this is it.
From what I have seen of these on youtube, they look pretty good and are simple to use. Any hair type can be used on those and still get a good result. I will definitely use them if I ever purschased them in the near future.
Its funny this post came up because I just bought a set yesterday. I intend to use them to stretch my hair as well. I think they work well enough. I have 4a/4b hair and my hair came out with smooth (for the most part my ends need trimming) ribbon like curls. My hair is relatively short too (about 5 inches) They were fairly easy to use, it took me about 90 minutes to put in 44, but I hear it gets faster the more you do it.
What color/size curlformers did you use? My hair is about 6 inches and I’m pretty sure I’m a 4a-c.
I used the pink and orange (short and wide and long and wide)
Thanks!! I looked at the turquoise and green ones yesterday but there was only one pack at Sally’s 🙁
I bout the long and narrow (green/blue), but I haven’t found a video on youtube for them to see what type of results naturals get with them. Has anyone else tried them, or just the wide ones (pink/yellow)?
If you look at the Feistyhouse blog, one of the bloggers uses the long and narrow. They also have youtube videos about them
I saw this by “Feistykoos” on youtube that I think is the ones that you may have purchased. Hope this helps.

Love them the only con if you have long hair it takes forever to dry w/o a hooded dryer depending on how wet your hair was you don’t even have to comb out your curls to make uniform Shirley temple curls I should use them more often but am lazy maybe in winter
I just saw a tutorial on curlformers last week. I didn’t know they existed. I will be trying these out in the near future. The results are beautiful.
I have the wide ones – pink and yellow. I like them but, personally, I think they work better on already stretched hair. When I do them on wet hair, my hair isn’t smooth but still has little curlies on the ends of my hair.
Also, you can’t sleep on them very well…
I have used them many times over the last 2 years… They work well. I have 4a/b hair and although my hair comes out stretched, I’ve learned to use smaller pieces, othwerwise I think they come out a lil too frizzy and don’t last as long as I’d like. It takes me waaay to long to just use them to stretch my hair. I typically will put them in and then wear my hair out until the curls get raggedy and then keep them in protective styles (bun). When I do this I can go nearly a month w/out having… Read more »
Wow! That sounds amazing. I want to try curlformers really soon. I plan to use them as a styler as well and not to simply stretch my hair. How do you usually style your hair with curlformers? I have watched tons of Youtube videos and many people separate the curls. Also, what products do you use when styling with curlformers?
I love them!!! My hair felt like feather I use the long and wide for a wave type look, you can see my review on them at brirosecurly.blogspot.com
I have had nothing but success with curlformers. I follow the Kairox146 method…she’s from youtube. I use Organic Root Stimulator Twist and Loc Gel and a spray bottle with water and EVOO (if my hair begins to dry during the process). I get compliments from the first day to the last and it has become my go-to style when I have no other ideas. Last time I used curlformers, I had 3 french-braids from the right-side of my head around to the nape of my neck on the left side and it was awesome!!!!
I have been using curlformers (short and wide) for the past month and I must say its been a love/hate relationship. Mostly love though. It turns my mostly 4a and some 4b hair into perfect shirly temple curls, however, my hair is 6 in and i do not like the way it looks on short hair. So i end up seperating the curls into a beautiful, heat-free, stretched, curly fro. I feel that with longer hair the results will look better and achieve hanging hair. On the downside since I started using curlformers some of my ends have become a… Read more »
I have used Curlformers many times, and I always get great results. I usually style my hair in twists, and then I use the Curlformers (pink/orange) to curl them. I usually let my hair air dry for a few hours or sleep in the Curlformers over night. They aren’t the best rollers to sleep in, but they have great results.
They are simple to put in your hair, but if you feel ANY pain or excessive tugging, take the hair out of the hook and use a smaller section.
Never used them, they seemed a bit labour intensive and too involved. They do make the hair turn our nice though.
I’ve been wanting to try these for a while. I love spiral curls. But I’m not sure about the price :/ Even though my hair is short (about 6″) it’s very thick so I know I’d need quite a few. The knock off versions “Magic Leverag” comes up on amazon and ebay. Maybe I’ll try those after text books have been bought.
If the price @ sally’s is to steep look on eBay and check out the magic curlers / curl magic it will be a search option when you type in curl formers. I purchased 3 packs @ the total cost of $18.00 that was about 55 rollers total can’t beat it.
What seller did you use on Ebay? The ones i’ve looked at are all hong kong sellers… and i’m picky with my ebay buying!
Ha. I just chose the next to the cheapest ones. They came directly from Beijing, in less than two weeks the only issue was they smelled like they had come just off a diesel truck. So I just put all of them in a gallon freezer bag with some dryer sheets closed it up and was good to go. So don’t be scared to order out of China it’s not like everything doesn’t come from there already. HTH.

I’m glad that Curlformers have given so many positive results!
Curlformers made beautiful curls in my hair, but the hook that I have is not completely smooth so I ended up with split ends. I was VERY disappionted!
I haven’t touched them in almost two years but, I’d like to try again with some IC Leave-In on my hair to strengthen and protect it. I really hope it works out.
Ha! This is so funny, because I just purchased a salon kit from Sally’s last week (I saved a total of $15 off the price using my beauty club card + a $5 coupon + a 15% off coupon). I washed, detangled, DT, then applied a leave-in and I used Kera Care foam wrap lotion for each section of hair. It took me about an hour to use all 46 rollers on hair that ranges from 6-8 inches in length. I was able to sleep in them. Although it was not the most comfortable, it was tolerable. The next morning,… Read more »
Well how about the flexirods in place of the curlformers, those give off a really good look as well. They cost half as much, or about the same depending on how much hair that you have. This is the best flexirod tutorial that I have come across while on youtube “Tashiramone”
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpbOkgImcyM&feature=related
I like the result but they take too long to put in and I can’t sleep in them lol..so I don’t use them often..
you did great
Looks like the results are great, but can anyone tell me how you sleep on the curls to keep them looking fresh? I’m a rough sleeper and I haven’t slept ‘cute’ in years, now that I have natural hair…

This isn’t working for me, I followed all the steps… help!
By how you would write, you could be seen as an established writer.**..;
I bought a set years ago and tried them out. It took forever and though the curls came our perfect, I didn’t like the way they looked. I felt like I was too old to have hair that looked like it should be on a Shirley Temple doll. I was, however, impress with the curlformers ability to take my THICK, WET, 4B hair and transform it into straight, bouncy, shiny curls. I was totally amazed. I may try them again one day, but I’d need to place a special order for longer ones.
I am really wanting to try out some curlformers soon! I have dense 4a/4b hair that is 8 in long, and I am curious about how many I should buy? I am going to use long and wide. Does anybody have similar length that can give me an estimate? Thanks! =]
I love Curlformers! I am sitting under the dryer with them in as I type. They are easy to put in and give me almost zero frizz, unlike flexirods. They’re also light weight which makes them okay to sleep on. I use about 60 of the extra long and wide to set my hair.
I found a reasonable price on amazon for a different brand of curlformers that are called Vakind or Snail rollers, but are actually the exact same thing but cheaper if you think they are pricey.
May someone help me with this question please, do these curlformers work 4C/D stroke D hair? Also so they come in smaller smaller sizes that curl 8 inch long hair….If not can I sue ordinary rollers? Thank you.
Hello there! Quick question that’s totally off topic.
Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My blog looks weird when browsing from my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a template or
plugin that might be able to correct this issue.
If you have any suggestions, please share. With thanks!
