Does KCCC make your hair crunchy? It works fine for me, but my hair hard afterwards. Do you re-style daily? When I use it on my TWA, I feel like I have to re-style daily because the curl definition doesn’t last more than 24 hours.

Pretdva

KCCC does great on my TWA!!! I love the product however one of my friends say that it dries her hair out and doesn’t make her curls pop. I guess it depends on your hair texture.

I used to use Eco Styler gel(olive oil) but it has a tendency to dry out and flake. So now I use IC Fantasia, the clear one, and it works great. Definition, shine, no flakes, aloe(and my hair loves aloe). It’s a keeper!

Curls Goddess Curl gel. It gives great definition with NO crunchiness. I use it to get super soft, defined twist outs.

Aloe Vera gel works well for my edges.

Eco Styler Olive Oil gel has given me the best definition out of all the products I’ve tried, but it also made my hair dry and very crunchy.

Kimmy

I’m a Kinky Curly fan. The gel leaves my hair with great hold, while being soft at the same time. I’ve just switched to EcoStyler. It gave me great hold, but it has a more dryer feel than Kinky Curly. After day three some of my curls dissappeared. I now see why KC charges so much for the product, but I will add some leave in conditioner and oils when using EcoStyler.… I have to save some pennies 🙂

sarah
Guest

i tried to get on the EcoStyler bandwagon too. it gave me the most stringy curls 🙁
then i re-upped on KCCC and was kissing the jar for ever thinking i could choose another.

Hahahaha.… I understand, and am trying to fight temptation. But KCCC keeps calling me!

The EcoStyler Olive Oil one is best. The first day it is a little crunchy but days 2–7 are great once i break up the cruncyness I LOVE it! I can then style my hair in various ways once the crunchyness is gone and its fluffy.

Crys
Guest

Yea I have the same experience with it. I like that it will go on smoothly over conditioners or moisturizers. Because of that and putting a light oil over it, I haven’t had an issue with dryness

Jay

My edges are my issue. I love EcoStyler with Aloe and I have also fell in love with Organic Root Stimulator Edge Control, it works wonders.

Kiss My Face Upper Managment Styling Gel! It has nice natural ingredients, smells like grapefruit and provides a soft medium hold. It dosen’t give me cruncy hair or contribute to bulid up. It’s perfect for me.

I use it over shea butter when tieing down fuzzes while in a bun. I sometimes use it for braid outs and bantu knot outs along with Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque.

Queen Helene hard-to-hold gel works well for smoothing and definition for me. To combat hardness, I use a pomade.

When I want a softer feel and hold, I use Kinky Curly Curling Custard.

When I used to do the coils, I loved using Long Aid activator gel. That gave my coils some swing.

eco-styler really works well for me. It defines my curls and holds my hair. My only issue is my hair feels rock solid afterwards. Am i the only one?

Vivianne

Nope! I gave it up just for that. Who wants rocks on their head? ;)I prefer IC Fantasia, but am still on the hunt for something that defines well withouth the crunch.

I got the same results until I mixed it with Hawaiian Silky and EVOO. The combination of those 3 give me the BEST twist outs EVER!

I am currently falling in loving with Eco Styler. I hated the way it flaked and how hard it was. But now I define my curls with the gel like normal, then use my diffuser to speed up the drying time, then I use the concentration head for my dryer and stretch the roots to avoid massive shrinkage. Now I don’t freeze when I leave my dorm and I have soft, non-flaky, 4 day hair! I also used Hello Hydration Conditioner

Darcys botanicals coiling curly gel.

My hair absolutely loves this stuff and it detangles my hair

I’ve recently discovered Elasta QP Feels Like Silk Design Gel. Its both alcohol and glycerine-free. I use it on my edges and it has great hold without drying and crunching. I don’t do the curl-defining thing with gel so I can’t testify as to how it works for that. I really like it and, unlike the Eco Styler, Olive Oil is actually one of the top 3 ingredients.

My number 1 of the list: Curl Junkie Curl Queen, clumps my curls like crazy, love the definition and zero crunch!
it actually leaves hair moisturised!
i like some others such as Darcy’s botanicals cream gel and coiling gelly (a bit of crunch, but a bit of oil/pomade takes it out).
I am trying the Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic and B5 Gels next week, maybe they will compete with the Curl Junkie Curl Queen? doubt it! 🙂

LA Bella’s water based Pomade, #9. I use it for my edges, when I wear my poofs, and it slicks the hair right in place, doesn’t leave my hair hard and crunchy. I use ECO Styler as well, usually for wash n gos, but it gets a little hard, and I don’t like that.

I don’t really use gels, but the last one I used and like a bit was the ONLY Pantene product to ever work with me: Pantene Curly Hair Extra Strong Hold Curl Shaping gel. It wasn’t too hard to rinse out and it didn’t crunch up my hair too much.

That being said, I really don’t like to use gel, but I’d like to experiment. 🙂

i love eco styler now.my first use was horrible but after doing some research and finding a women on YT ( prettydimples01) she did a mixture of oils, gels and leave in’s i took a Que from her and made my own i made a little vid that i uploaded to my YT after using the mixture(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUhILXrUPY8&feature=related). it turned out very good.i just have to make sure to always use some oil & leave in otherwise i get the flaking, the crunchy feel. i have yet to try anything else, maybe just maybe i’ll try something new this year 🙂

LONGAID CURL ACTIVATOR GEL!HANDS DOWN.
Softness like no other, and you never have crunchy hair,

Nikki

I can’t do the curl defining thing with gels because my hair shrinks too much and I don’t like to use a lot of gel, but Herbal Essences it makes my hair feel soft, not crunchy and defines it the best.

& for edges I really like the blue tube of L.A. Looks.

But I just bought the clear Eco Styler for the first time a couple of weeks ago, I like it on my edges, and I used it on my dry hair when I did a variation on a faux hawk and I loved it.

It really depends on my mood and what time of the year i’m in. For the winter time I usually use IC Fantasia gel. It has given me incredible hold without drying my hair out. I use it with Vo5 moisture milk as my leave in. In the Summer I use KKKC. I live in Ga, and when we talk about heat, its 90 degrees on a cold day, so I need something that will define my curls and last all day long. I have used ecostyler(clear kind and olive oil), herbal essence(all gels they have made) and I hated… Read more »

I get it as the BSW (Beauty supply Warehouse) Keele and Sheppard in the plaza. Danforth Food market has it as well. Look around it’s not hard to find.

I use shea butter on my hair right after I wash it. Then I define my curls with the Eco-styler pink. The shea butter keeps the gel from getting too hard. During the week I use the olive Oil Eco-styler gel because it has a softer hold but is strong enough to hold down my edges. The key to keeping your curls from getting too crunchy with Eco-styler gel is to put something under it. I used to use Carols Daughter’s hair milk under eco-styler and it worked great also. I have never tried Kinky Curly but I would like to.… Read more »

IC Fantasia during the summer. It takes a bit to dry, but my hair is springy and non-crunchy!

Eco-Styler (with Leave-In Conditioner & oil underneath): during the winter. It dries faster which is great b/c I live in snowy weather. It isn’t crunchy when I out a Leave-in & light oil (coconut/jojoba) before hand.

hey I’ve been growing my hair out for about a year now, and Ive been using KCCC. I like it but my hair is still kind of short. I only see length if I do a twist-out. and gel recommendations that dont draw my hair up so easily and maintains softness??

Please help!

Amber

I stopped using KCCC after a few uses as well a Eco Styler. My hair ‘gel’ is hair conditioner it’s moisturizing and leaves great hold! Another good gel would be Castor Oil pomade it’s Castor Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Coconut oil stiffened into a grease type deal without the crappy stuff like mineral oil. All that other stuff like KCCC is just so drying beyond belief!

I love this product and makes my curls look saturated but not sticky, glossy and shine without overdone and also my aunt loves it now too. I found about this product about 3 yrs ago.

I started out with Eco Styler Gel ( Olive Oil) I agree with everyone else VERY CRUCHY! Tried Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk next ( my hair hated it)returned it to Sephora. Next orderd Miss Jessie’s Hair Line (dried my hair completely out) I was SO thankful I bought “trial” sizes. Next I tried Kinky Curly ( cue the music) Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my hair loves it! AND it smells delicious. It is completely organic. There is a bit of a crunch if you use too much product but I just ordered the Gloss Pomade which I’m hopeing will ” scrunch the crunch”… Read more »

I use EcoStyler Gel with Olive Oil everyday faithfully. My mom bought me a big jar of it for my dorm and it’s lasted me a while. This stuff is the best. I use the EcoStyler with Shea Moisture’s Curling Custard and that makes my curls pop. I love it!

I have to say, I favor the flaxseed homemade gel with vitamin E and other essential oils.

Aloe Vera Gel is nice as well, especially if i can harvest it from the actual leaf myself.

I wash my hair with Organic Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo and Conditioner, for my leave in, I use As I am Leave in Conditioner, I then use the Organic Shea Moisture Souffle and then top it off with the Aragon Eco Styler Gel. I either air dry or sit under my hooded dryer while on a cool setting. My hair drys with a slight crunch yet it is not dry and is very moistureized. My curls always pop!!!! I have Type 3 hair. For me and my thick, wild hair nothing beats Via Naturals (green jar, which contains green tea, kiwi, and olive oil extracts). The green jar has mild hold, which I like, but the other colors contain varying amounts of hold and I haven’t tried them. The yellow jar is next for me as it contains cactus and avocado extracts. It is certified organic and very cheap, which is an oxymoron. It gives me the shiniest, non-sticky, non-crunchy curls EVER! It is very mild and my hair never dries out. My only complain is that it is somewhat hard to find.
