In between washes, what products do you use to style your dry hair? I’m talking products that provide hold, moisture, softness, definition and (if relevant) shine.

Her hair is gorgeous ( :
I fluff my hair with some Cantu Shea leave in and coconut oil for softness and shine to my old twist outs that are dry. other than that, not much

Karen Body Beautiful Hair Milk (now Ambrosia)..its such a lovely moisturizer. If my hair is feeling dry I just take some and work it in..twist or fluff as I desire.
If I want the hair stretched out, I use oils. Anything moisturizing like a cream or gel, my hair retracts like it got doused with water. Coconut oil, Doo Gro oil, anything that doesn’t make it curl. For moisture, I use Cantu as well, or Doo Gro hair cream.
I have 4a/4b hair that’s just long enough to put it in a puff on top of my head. To moisturize between washes I use a lil spritz of water, then either Cantu Shea Butter leave-in or, my new fav, Shea Moisture Curl & Style Conditioning Milk. Shea moisture also has a Hold & Shine Moisture Mist that works really well. So, the hair milk combined with either the moisture mist, or a little bit of jojoba oil usually works wonders, leaving my hair soft with minimal frizz.
I swear by Oyin Handmade’s Burnt Sugar and Pomade. It is the TRUTH! But once it get’s colder, I’m hanging that up (it’s a humectant) and will start using shea butter again.
Oyin shine n define/burnt sugar; darcy b’s vanilla madagascar creme, carol’s daughter mimosa honey and qhemet bio ANYTHING!!
Qhemet Biologics Alma and Olive heavy cream or Jane Carter Nourish and Shine during the winter…and Karen’s Body Beautiful hair milk during the summer
Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream & Olive and Honey Hydrating Balm… Love these two products!
Repeat! Qhemet Biologics and Darcy’s Leave in Moisturizers and hair milk!
Shea Butter, It’s a 10 Hair Mask(great tip from ‘Thank god I’m natural’..used it in the past as only DC), Coconut oil/Vatika oil(summer) or mix of avocado, grape seed, jojoba, vitamin e, castor oil and very little coconut oil(winter)
I like to use Shea Moisture Curl and Hold Smoothie. It holds great curl definition and doesnt leave your hair greasy feeling
Since my hair’s locked away in protective styles unless I’m washing it, I usually use Shea butter or Olive Oil/Castor Oil on my hair. Since we’re in the rainy (colder) season now, I’ve shied away from using my glycerin spritz and just rely on the butter and oil.
I like to use aloe vera gel or my homemade flax seed gel mix. I have 4b-4c hair and the flax seed gel makes my twist outs amazing, especially on dry hair when I’m re-twisting my hair. I might add a little coconut or olive oil for shine.
Ihave the same type hair. Do you mind sharing where do you get flax seed gel and what do you mix with?
I, too, am a Qhemet Biologics Heavy Amla Cream girl. I’m trying to find another dry styling product for the winter that doesn’t contain glycerin, due to its humectant properties.
I have to co-sign and say Cantu Shea Butter leave-in has worked well for my dry bantu-knot outs. When I take the knots out in the morning my hair is so defined, it looks like I used a curling iron. Now if I could just find something to give me more shine, I’d be good to go!
A spritz of water, Carol’s Daughter hair balm and shea butter.
Depending on moisture needs…Qhemet Biologics Olive+Honey Balm (gives shine too) and Amla+Olive Heavy Cream (I use the latter exclusively during the winter, as needed otherwise). For hold and definition, Curl Junkie’s Aloe Fix. Sometimes I set twistouts/braidouts w/QhBio’s gel.
I love Qhemet burdock root butter cream. When my hair is in braids/ twists I use scurl and Infusium leave in.
Every other day, I use my infamous mixture of Distilled Water, veggie glycerin, and Aubrey Organics GPB then sealed with Castor Oil.
If my hair is dry on the in between days, I use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.
I am so happy we are finally talking about what people use on a day to day basis!! JEEEZ! Most of the time when girls talk about their regimens they only talk about deep conditioner, co-wash products, etc. AND I’m LIKE…HELLOOOOO, what do you use on the DAILY! LOL! 🙂
Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade, Whipped Pudding and Shine and define.
NjoiCreationS Coconut Cream Hairdressing.
And I spritz with any leavin conditioner, almond oil, coconut oil and rosemary EO all mixed in a spray bottle.
I apply, by sections, peppermint tea/oil mix to dampen the hair a little. Then Giovanni direct leave in conditioner mixed with JBCO and aloe vera to style.
Love for Qhemet from me too. However between styling I do not co-wash and I wear twists so I use Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier and Darcy’s glycerin free Peach Kernal Milk. I have noticed that the TWPMB does not play well with other products at all and leaves flakes when used with Darcy’s. I have yet to find a perfect natural spray and the commercial ones leave the hair producty.
Jane Carter Solution’s Nourish and Shine. It smells great and provides a slight shine…did I mention it smells really good?
For twisting: SheaButter with a mix of argan & macadamia oil or MangoButter with kukui nut & avocado oil.
I purchase these butters and oils from the aromatherapyshop.co.uk.
For daily moisture & fluffing; Vatika Coconut or Organix Coconut Serum.
In between washes i use Qhemet Biologics Alma and Olive heavy cream year round…lol.
Sometimes, i add a lil bit of castor oil on my ends…
thank you all so much for posting your feedback. i am sooo lost in this natrual process but i refuse to go back. i have wasted sooo much money on products that dont work or maybe do and i didnt know how to properly use them. please keep the comments comingand make them as detailed as possible 🙂
Shea butter, essential oils and spritz (water,a little suave humectant condish, and 12 drops of peppermint oil)
Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk is awesome…it moisturizes without the greasy feeling and elongates my curls…with a lemon fresh scent…its a little more expensive ($18 @ Macy) but it is worth it
I’m not sure if you have this shop in the States but in the UK there is a shop called Lush, I’ve started using their R&B leave in conditioner. It’s an expensive little tub but it works a treat!! The ingredients are on the tub and it’s easy enough to make yourself. xxxx
Karen’s Body Beautiful Ambrosia!!! it makes my 4a/4b hair extra soft and managable until my next wash and DC!!!!
Jane Carter Nourish and Shine (good for hair and skin-smells delish). And also, Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme-I’m sure it has some product that naturals will say is bad-but, it works miracles when I retwist a dying twist-out, weighs my hair down just enough to make it fabulous, and has a sweet scent.
When my hair needs it, I use QB alma&olvie heavy cream on my scalp, which in turn leaves my hair soft, and moistureized, and then i seal my ends with QB castor&moringa sofening(sp?) serum. which works wonderfully
I use Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey along with Cantu Shea Butter. These products have left my hair looking really healthy and feeling soft.
I use CD Bk Val Condish, CD HHB and seal w/CD MHH. These three (3) products make my hair feels so soft, spongy and smelling sooo delicious.
Why do we deep condition with coconut oils…shea butter.…and then rinse it away. But then we moisturise (when in dry state) with the same oils coconut, jojoba oils, shea butters etc???
Is conditioning and rinsing healthier for the hair if we do it more often rather than just applying oils onto the hair in a dry state will that cause build up on both scalp and hair??? Have I just answered my own question lol??! And if so is build up on the hair as much as important on the scalp? I hope I am making sense.
Very interesting question/thought. Ive often wondered the same thing. I think DC with it and then also applying to dry hair just adds EXTRA moisture and my hair is dry all the time so I need all I can get. I think this lady on youtube (www.youtube.com/user/cynthiarf) attributes her hair growth to washing daily and moisturizing once the hair is almost dry. Im not quite sold on the theory though, plus I don’t have time to do that every day. p.s. to answer the original question on this blog. I use a shea butter mix that includes a few different oils.… Read more »
CD Healthy Hair Butter really helps to eliminate dry hair.
who is this model?
she’s jordan richardson
devacurl mist-er-right and set it free from deva curl
I use “Sabstine: Molding Mud”. This is a very great product at a great price point. It provides a great hold on my twists and braidouts and acts like repel humidity. Keeps my hair soft and the twists are very defined and soft.
elasta qp olive oin and mango butter works great!! Its great fot out styles especially.
i use shea moisture’s curling souffle, it provides hold and is super moisturising for the hair and very cheap, water, olive oil and also shea moisture’s deep treatment mask as a leave in is awesome for my hair. between those two my hair is never dry.
