Stylist.com did a makeover on a woman named Gena. And although she has gorgeous curls and a beautiful color — they felt the need to flatten out her hair. To be fair, the stylist was addressing Gena’s long face, and Gena did mention that she wanted to try something new. But I think the end result kinda looks like a wig. Plus it hurt my heart to see the smoke rise from that flat iron. *Sigh. Well at least she got a cut out of it. Check the video and let me know what you think…
Her natural hair framed her face beautifully. I definitely liked the before picture better.
One, I think the before picture looks better. She looks more youthful. Two, I wonder what the cut did for her curly hair. I would think it would be hard to cut a style for curly hair while it’s pin straight.
I completely disagree !!! All you need is a GOOD haircut from the hairdresser’s and you’re set. There are all kinds of haircuts for natural hair that CAN frame your face beautifully. I refuse to believe that looks/cuts for natural hair aren’t versatile enough.
I don’t know if it was just me, but the female looked mad when she was getting her hair done. I would have been feeling the same way with that constant heat. In addition, if the hair lady is an expert, why couldn’t she cut her hair in her natural state.
they made her look generic, what her curls needed was some layers and maybe a darker color
I like the before picture better (she looked vibrant). The after picture is looks “fake”. Don’t like it at all.
I like them both! Her hair straightens very well for it to be dyed blond. I’d expect crazy split ends. I think the second pic looks like a wig b/c of the poor quality. In the first pic, the straight style looks healthy, light and bouncy.
I have a long face and cut own hair to frame my face better when it’s curly. Instead of layering in a line (like you do to short hair), I took my hair and cut two layers on the sides (one of top of the other). I think it looks great!
(when I wrote “short hair” I meant “straight hair.” Multi-task FAIL.
Great post! I disagree with the “natural curls ride or die” mentality, so I’m glad to see that face shape is being addressed in the styling process. This beautiful woman looks great either way, but they really should have shaped her curly hair to give her some bangs or a side part. Her curls are gorgeous! Of course, the hairdresser took the easy way out and straightened it. Very frustrating. The reality is that natural curls shrink up and not everyone looks good with volume around their cheeks. As we all know around here, that doesn’t mean you have to… Read more »
I think she looks good in the before and after pictures to be honest. Yes, the straight hair does hide her forehead so the stylist did achieve what the client wanted, and that was a less long looking face. However, I’m sure she could have achieved the same end result without straightening her hair. But she stated why she straightened it, so I can’t be mad at her. All in all, I think natural hair can frame your face beautifully, you just have to find the correct cut. As versatile as natural hair is? Chile plz, 🙂
I think the cut was pretty good…now she’ll have different options when it’s curly as far as different ways to part/style it..especially with a bang.
I absolutely love the hair color!

Funny that this stylist didn’t run for the flat iron when she saw curly hair!
She looks great in both pics, IMO.
I think with her hair styled with the curls she could steer away from the ‘long face’ that she was aiming for. I think she look fine before I agree now she looks generic, still good though.
There are so many naturals who style their own hair so well, she should have worked with the curls stylist like straighteners too much!
I think she looks good in both pictures – I can’t believe she does the color herself it’s beautiful! It would have been nice if they’d shown a second ‘after’ photo with she could use on her hair when it’s not straightened.
@luvs – I say that look on her face during the flat ironing too!
I think it’d frame her face better if it had more volume; it looks really flat up top. So a good haircut and a little fluff was all she needed for a new look. She looks lovely in both pics anyway tho.
Women have a special ability to give ourselves issues when there isn’t one. What is the big deal about her face?
The hair to me before and after is fine. I think she will have a nightmare of a time trying to wear the straight hair curly. The thinning, bangs and layering are designed for straight hair not a curly look.
I only wish all of my hair could curl up like that. I like both styles and can understand how the client would want to change up ever so often. But anything wash and go would be my preference and she did not look bad at all with the curls. Are long faces that bad?
I think she looked good both ways. I have the “long face” thing going on too. I have many people express I look better with straight hair and a bang. I sort of agree, but not enough to chemical straighten my hair or fry my hair daily with a flat iron. I am training for a 5K right now. I would have to do this everyday and that is SO not happening. I think the stylist could have tried to work with her hair curly. ~~sighs~~
She looked just fine in the BEFORE picture … The color & the way the curls fell fit her face shape and complexion perfectly in my opinion … Actually I think she looks older and her face looks longer in the AFTER pic! Seems to me like the stylist straightened it before cutting because she didn’t know HOW to cut curly hair … you can’t cut curly hair using the SAME techniques you use on straight hair but since the stylist is not skilled in that area she did what she knows best, all the while making it seem like… Read more »
I thought she was beautiful with curly and straight hair. She looks like another beautiful black woman on street. Her curls are unique to her, but having straight hair makes her generic. I like to wear straight hair sometimes, but I truly enjoy my kinky coils better.
I agree she looks great in both pics. I don’t see how it looks like wig in the second picture at all.
I think the cut looks good, but my one reservation was the stylist’s complete lack of concern for how the client wore her hair daily. Even if a client comes in looking for a ‘change’, a stylist should be aware of what the client is willing to do to maintain the new hairstyle in addition to things the client does that may affect their hair (will she be wiling to straighten often enough to upkeep the straight look? does she work out often, making a straight look a bit impractical? does she even own a flat iron, and if so,… Read more »
when i first saw the pic, i was kind of far away from the computer and i thought the second pic was a wig,as well. both hairstyles look good on her. but i like the curly look better, maybe i’m biased against the straight hair. lol. the colour of her hair looks very nice with her skin tone.
i agree. i’ve seen these articles before. when a white woman with curly hair gets the makeover, they deal with her curly hair. when it’s a black woman with curly hair, they straighten it for the makeover. hmm. methinks they assume black women would rather have straight hair then to rock out their own.
OMG, Relax! Since when is it a crime to be versatile with your hairstyle. She can just wet her hair for it to go back to it’s natural state. Sometimes this natural revolution is just too militant. Being natural is great because you have OPTIONS.
Honestly, I think most black women look unattractive with straight hair. Flat/limp hair just doesn’t mesh well with our (general of course) features. Straight hair suits most people with Caucasoid bone structure. Not so for those of us (including Ms Gena) with different (African) ancestry. My opinion.
First of all, her face is not long. Second, I think the before picture looks better-it flatters her and the color is nocie. The after is oklay, but a bit run of the mill. Also, I think it’s ironic that the after makes her face look longer, (although I still don’t think there’s anything wrong with her face.)
I can see how she might have needed a cut (some well-placed layers) to better frame her face, but like Jc and others have said I’m afraid of what the cut will look like curly. As far as I know, thinning is designed for straight hair, and, when done on curly hair, can create lots of frizz and stringiness. Maybe the client intends to wear her hair straight most of the time. You never know…
She looks great in both before and after.
But my eyes are drawn more to the curly look.
I think she looks good both ways. I agree with those who don’t see anything wrong with a change every now and then. My only objection is the hair color.
I would have just loved to see her wet it to show how the layers look in her hair’s natural state. I do agree that she needed an option to work with her forehead, or maybe she should’ve just changed the way she parted her hair *shrug* I’m still pretty confused about whether hair can be cut when it’s curly or straight anyway so I probably don’t have any say regarding the decision to straighten the hair before cutting…
I gave it two thumbs down. I agree with everyone who said wet it and now let’s see the REAL results. lolz. She’s gonna have heat damage for a while. Major flop. She just needed to shape her curls.
Natural curls can frame the face well it just depends on the style & the cut in my opinion. I like the curly hair a little better, but she looks good both ways. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her wanting to wear it straight but I agree with others about how the cut in the front will look curly because of shrinkage.
I like both styles (sometimes, it’s nice to switch things up for quick minute) BUT I luv her curls the best AND the straight style makes her look older, IMO.
With her hair straight she looked like cookie cutter image. Next time she should use her imagination and style it up!
I think she is a BEAUTIFUL girl, but to be honest (but respectful), I don’t like her hair color. It’s too similar to the color of her skin and I think it washes her out, especially when her hair is straight. I think hair color is just as important as cut & style. And in this scenario, her hair “blends” in with her skin, IMO. This also makes certain features stand out which shouldn’t. I say this bc the stylist kept commenting about how long her face was. Her face look average to me,lol. I think it was the color… Read more »
Oooo Heck Naw….Before my coment refelcetd the pics only. After watching the video…her hair got chopped up to many different ways, she tortured her texture into flat submissions and bumped it! Why?? She will be growing it out for a long time to get her precious curly bob back. Had she kept it real she would of cut it curly and framed her face the natural way. Ooooweee..ugh! Well atleast I know i’m doing the right thing staying out of salons.
Maybe if they didn’t make the straight style look like a flattened wig. They redid a natural woman on What Not To Wear, and her hair was also straightened – but that stylist merely shaped her hair, rather than cut it into a set style like this one. She was able to wear her hair natural AND straight.
I’m all for naturals wanting to temporarily straighten just to change things up a bit, but I prefer a job well done. Sorry; this one missed me.
Why do so many people believe the flat iron is the devil? Isn’t one of the beauties of natural hair is it’s versatility? I believe both pictures look great. But remember that the purpose of cutting her hair was to make her face look Not-So-Long and if you examine the before and afters the cut did just that.
IMO she looks great with both styles. My preference is the curly style!! Of course it doesnt frame her face (not surprised)… Underlying message: if it ain’t straight it ain’t right!!! Stating that it doesn’t frame the face was a mild way of saying that straight is better!!!! I can appreciate a good cut but I cringed as I saw the steam coming from the flat iron… I hope her curl pattern is not damaged because of the heat from the dryer and flat irons. I may press my hair once a year but I notice a difference and how… Read more »
@ Bree – I don’t think that flat irons are the devil. It is sort of the best of both worlds. You can have a different look without adding chemicals! I also know how constantly straightening and using flat irons can damage the curl pattern. I have several friends who want to wear a natrual curly style but their hair simply will not curl up due to years of pressing and flat ironing. It is natural considering that they are pressing and not adding perm, however, when washed their hair remains straight as though it is permed. Flat irons are… Read more »
i think the stylist did a good job with the cut. maybe its my personal preferance but i don’t like putting heat on my hair so i wouldn’t have agreed to te heat. i am one of those people that move when the iron comes out and i get burns all over myself. but the cut came out nicely. i like the curls more but i think she could have styled her curls in such a way that hides her forehead. she can style her curls and gotten the same new vibe. for me i would have tried to jazz… Read more »
Oh please…I’m so tired of the whole “framing face” concept being applied to hair that doesn’t naturally hang…
And I agree with those who say that her hair looked much better before. If that’s too militant for some people, too damn bad.
That before/after shot prompted me to write a blog post, check it out if you’d like http://www.nesheaholic.com/2010/08/natural-hair-makes-you-unique.html
i think she’s such a cute girl and her face is not long, it’s oval which is one of the best structures because you can get away with almost any style. i loved her curly hair. i don’t like using that intense amount of heat because as others have mentioned sometimes you have stringy pieces that are permanently straightened. she seemed to love it so that’s all that mattered but being natural i would never want a makeover that’s so drastically different because i know i wouldn’t be able to do all that heat daily. plus with her having colored… Read more »
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Miss Ivy, Black Girl Long Hair. Black Girl Long Hair said: Link of the day: Natural curls don't frame the face well? http://bit.ly/aMAvGI #naturalhair […]
Just wanted to add that I think this is a way of making women feel insecure so that they have to pay someone to “fix” something. Also, I bet that stylist knows nothing about cutting or styling curly hair in it snatural state. So of course she is going to suggest straightening it-that’s probably all she knows how to do.
Uh…no. The before (especially in the video) looked a 100 times better! Even the flat iron before the cut looked better. What messed her look up was the way the stylist “cut” (and I use that term loosely because that looked more like a hack job than a haircut) her hair. I’ll be surprised if she’s able to wear it curly and have it look decent! It’s very obvious that the stylist has no training in natural hair. Why a feather cut? And razoring the ends? Bad idea. I kinda feel sorry for the client but after all, it was… Read more »
Wow that was a terrible cut. The stylists didnt put any structure or foundation into the hair. This is a $10 haircut, this will last about 2 weeks. A real haircut with a strong foundation will last about 2 months!
The bangs are a nice change. I don’t understand why they couldn’t cut a bang curly though. Most importantly, I don’t think she’s happy with her hair based solely on these photos. Her smile is smaller and not reaching her eyes in the After photo.
She definitely looked better in the BEFORE PICTURE. The after picture does look like a wig lol
When the humidty hits her flat ironed hair she is going to be so upset. I would have been afraid to get my hair done from a stylist with a bad wig/weave etc. That should had been the first hint that she was not going to the best hair style. Also, I don’t think there was anything wrong with her “long” face. Her curly hair was cute and her hair didn’t look coarse just really curly and a lacking volume. It would be had been nice to cut her curly hair into a cut shape and have done something funky… Read more »
Omg, they just jacked up this girls look. First off, she looked sooo much better in the “before” state. Secondly, she also looked great with the blow out alone. I wish they would have stopped there. But the cut?!? Terrible.
I like both the curly and straight look. The curly look moreso. What really got to me was the way, the method, or non method the stylist used to cut her hair. It seemed more like she was creating damage than giving a style that would still leave the clients hair healthy. I have seen several stylist at work and I can’t recall them hacking anyone’s hair like this.
she doesn’t look any better with straight hair
She really is going to be upset when she goes back to her curl.. The stylist hacked a ton off.. Curly hair specialist stylists cut hair curly and do touch-ups after they straighten. She clearly doesn’t work with curly/kinky hair frequently.
my heart is hurt. she totally used too much heat and the cutting techniques she used, like someone else said, looks like she damaged the girl’s hair. i wonder what that cut will look like once she washes her hair and goes curly again?
I don’t like the new style. Two thumbs down.
I didn’t like the way she cut the hair either. I would have liked to see what she could have done with the curly style.
Yea…it looks like a weave. lol And I am wondering how she colored her hair before. That’s even more damage if she used a peroxide agent.
Okay I do not like this. She got a lot of little layers cut into her hair and when she goes back to the curl I personally think she is going to scream!!!
Ok so first off the stylist sounds like an idiot. “With your forehead showing all the time it makes your face appear a little longer.” She’s gonna “help take the long look away.” WTF? Thats her f*cking face! There’s nothing wrong with having a long face. It fits her! Gosh what an idiot. And yes her face still looks long because again I say thats her f*cking face. It’s long! Damn what in the world is wrong with that?
ROTFL! Yeah, I was thinking, “Long face”…. that is her face, with bangs and layers or without! Someone told me yesterday how big my forehead is with my hair pushed back and I just thought, dang, but that’s how my head is!
You hit the nail on the head…such a rude stylist can’t stay in business.
Both styles look nice. It would have been great if they would have addressed her hairstyle and framing her face from a curly hair perspective. It was a good opportunity to learn about different ways to cut curly hair.
I think a fringe was the only thing needed to ‘frame’ her face and make it look wider. The stylist clearly did what they only know how to do. Shame.
I think she looks fine with curly and straight hair. My hair is natural also but I like to change it up some times…
That stylist is wearing a wig! SO…
I have a long face too, and I wear my fro parted on the side (a curly side swept bang) to help balance my face. Why couldn’t she just to that?
i feel sorry for her she fell into the trap of letting the stylist tell her she was ugly before the makeover so she could tell her she was beautiful afterward i think she is beautiful either way and im not gon hate on the end product jus cuz im a natural cuz tht press was fly but for real tho ur curls mkee ur face look too long wth p.s. lol she looked mad wen ol girl was cuttin off all her lenghth
Yes, the ‘stylist’, was wrong. The girls’ hair was gorgeous with the curls;why not just create a bang with her curls? the ‘press’ was ‘nice’, but as many stated, when the hair reverts to curl, she probably did cringe, and then scream. And what was with stressing about her long face’? dumb. That’s her face, and it is cute just the way it is. And yes, the ‘stylist’ was wearing a wig/weave. Big clue.
yea. theres nothing wrong with wearing a press every now and again. but the cut is the problem. you def shouldnt cut her hair straight. i was mortified at how she was cutting her hair…and then the heat 3 times….sad
I like both looks but man that woman is scissor happy. I was yelling in my head “somebody stop her…how is it going to look once it goes back to curly?”
I didn’t like the “long face” remarks…the straight hair didn’t even make a difference
I’m not sure I liked either look… Her remarks were not kind or professional, talking about her forehead and her long face and her long look. Smh. Your bad weave! Anyway, I defintely liked the original flat iron. I don’t think she should’ve cut much or curled it afterwards. Her original length allowed her to wear dead straight hair. She should’ve cut an asymmetrical bob. Homegirls hair was already damaged from whatever she’s using to lighten her hair like that. She obviously never straightens her hair so I would’ve chosen to give her a different curly option.
@Mojo lol! exactly what i was thinking when i saw her jacked up tacky weave lol…I didnt like the way she was talking about her hair or the shape of her face she wasnt professional at all. I didnt like the haircut either she cut off way to much of her hair. Personally i think she looked much much MUCH better w/her curls
Wait a minute, She said she was going to give her some volume and then proceeded to flat iron her hair?
Then, there’s that obvious wig she’s wearing. It was clear she had no idea what she was doing. Now, I’m not a hair stylist but it’s obvious that if you’re going to cut hair that is curly that you should NOT straighten it first. She must be used to doing relaxed hair only.
All I can say is she will be horrified at the damage from all that heat and that butchered haircut.
She cut wayyy too much of that girl’s hair. I would have just trimmed her ends and given her a bang “IF” I was going to straighten it. Naturals should never get blunt cuts, it just doesn’t work if you try to revert and do other styles (i.e. twists won’t stay twisted). I hated how she kept talking about how long her face is, etc. There’s nothing wrong with her face! She’s beautiful. Last buy not least, I have a strict rule about who I allow in my head. If your head is jacked up, you surely can’t know what… Read more »
WELL. I wouldn’t have done it, but it’s her hair. She looked prettier and younger with her curls IMO.
Love the color but i like her hair better before…… there are way she could have created volume and bands w/those b4 curls. I’ve seen this stylist work with natural curls & it was a hot mess.
I disagree with the stylist. Her curly hair looked great. I think the curls could have been even fuller and that would have made her look even better. What problem is there with the shape of her face?! She should be rocking that curly look with confidence. That’s what’s wrong with our society, we place too much control in these self-proclaimed stylists and designers/ manufacturers, and so on to tell us what is beautiful. We should listen to them while still forming our own ideas of beauty.
I really didn’t like the way that the woman said that her she had to find a way to address the lady’s “long” face. What’s wrong with her face? It reminded me of a stylist who asked me once in nasty tone why I was not relaxing my hair. Anyway, her curls were more beautiful.
I honestly found no problem with both styles. Her hair looks great in both pictures!! I prefer the curly hairstyle more as I’m no longer a fan of flat irons nor relaxers. I however appreciate the need to change up your hairstyles cause I do wear wigs and/or weaves when I feel for the straight look. However the “stylist” (I use inverted commas as I feel a styler of hair should be able to deal with ALL types of hair and not just look for the easiest way out – which was flat ironing her hair. She shouul of been… Read more »

I think had they layered her natural hair a bit more (like tons of other naturals choose to do), the same “framing of the face” effect would’ve been accomplished as well. -__-
We all have choices to make in life. It was her choice to have her hair cut by someone that cannot style their own hair. It was her choice to sit in that chair and allow that woman to literally butcher her hair. It will be her choice to scream, rant and rave after she attempts to go back to her curly hair. I hope that she does not have to do a BC to get back to where she started from. It is so important to choose the right stylist when your hair is natural. There are so many ways… Read more »
I love her naturally curly hair, actually more than the after photo.
I wonder how the cut is going to look when her hair goes back to her natural state.
If the issue was the “forehead”, how come she didn’t just cut her some bangs and leave the curls in tact. I think this is just a case of the hairstylist doing what she knows how to do.
The problem is that her hair will not revert back from that agression; look at her fine hair!
Why the stylist didn’t use a non-direct heat technique ?
in the words of antoinne maryweather on in living color…….HATED IT! lol
I’m laughing my face off at some of these comments. Boreeyah: “In the words of antoinne maryweather on in living color . . . HATED IT!” Mojo [Referencing the stylist talking about Gena’s long face and big forehead]: “Smh. Your bad weave!” LOL! I couldn’t agree more. That stylist is biased against curly naturals. She is accustomed to styling straight hair. I bet you two to one the stylist’s hair under that abominable wig/weave is damaged. Also some of you commented that when this girl, Gena, washes her hair to get it curly again, she’s going to be upset. After… Read more »
poor tang looks like they put a toupee on her. her curly hair was sooo pretty.
I personally don’t like straight hair on my head but it does frame her face better.
However, her curls looked gorgeous. I hope she doesn’t get any heat damage. I have tons of it due to people dragging me to the salon.
Never letting happening again to my poor curls.
Um..I would like to see the day I let someone with a dry wig on their head style me hair.
*my hair* I meant!!
GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!! They JACKED her hair up!!! I cant stand stylists that use that technique to cut AFRICAN AMERICAN hair. That technique is NOT meant for OUR hair. *im over here crying for that poor girl*
My stylist would have NEVER cut my hair like that. I mean NEVER! Thats why I fly to whatever city he moves too just to get my hair styled. LOL I refuse to let just “ANYONE” in my hair.
WHHHHHYYYYYY did she let that ‘stylist’ do that to her hair?! Apparently, this so called ‘stylist’ is used to doing relaxed hair. Because that’s the same tired bump every relaxed woman gets. The model’s face was gorgeous, even with it being ‘long’. Shoot, if you’re going to have a forehead that’s pronouced I’d like it to look just like hers. This vid is nonsense and that stylist is pathetic, no stage presence, no visual appeal, could barely open her mouth to speak… Let’s see her do a natural style on someone natural– but I don’t know who in their right… Read more »
She was probably really shocked and disappointed once her hair got curly again, lol. I also think that curly hair would distract from her so called “long face problem”, short, straight hair would draw more attention to it, in my opinion.
At first, I thought she looked better in the after photo, but when I watched the video, I saw I was wrong: she looked better before. And it’s funny how the stylist’s focus was getting rid of Gina’s long face–her face looked longer afterwards! It hurt to see her chop off so much of her hair, but it wasn’t a bad cut. She just looks better before the cut and press.
I wonder how the different lengths that blend in when straight will look when she wears her curls.
She looked unique before. And now she looks like any other girl with a weave/wig. (I love how the stylist she will give the hair volume). Anyways point is… she looked really unique before.
Just a question why are so many people saying that you shouldn’t cut curly/kinky hair when it is straight. (I am a new natural so I am wondering)
@Catryn:
I disagree that you shouldn’t cut curly/coily hair straight because you need to see the true length and our hair doesn’t curly perfectly evenly. However, this stylist doesn’t know natural hair because she chopped off way too much and gave her all those layers as if she’ll always wear her hair straight. Once that hair curled back up, I’m sure she wasn’t happy with those short layers in the back because they won’t blend in and will look ridiculous. The bangs too will look too short when it’s curly.
I think she could have looked beautiful with her NATURAL hair pulled away from her face and swept up into a high curly pony tail, secured with a gem-encrusted barrette.
The thing that will suck about this is, he didn’t give her a hair cut that compliments her curls, when she washes her flat iron out, all I can see is frustration…. especially when her bangs curl up above her eybrows…
I loved her naturally curly hair and I think her long face is very pretty.

I think it’s pretty both ways; I definitely don’t think it looks like a wig since my hair looks the EXACT same way when straightened: shiny without putting oils in and light (as in it moves freely).
ALSO I do hate how they just automatically say her hair is coarse…curls are NOT coarse, and I’m sure hers are SOFT, bc my mom and sis have that size curl and they are sooo soft.
i hate that too… Because weave is a cover up… she don’t need to judge
My hair texture is similar to the ladies’ in the video.
I straighten my hair when I’m going on interviews because I have a particularly young face and I feel that straighter hair always makes me look more my age. I’m not sure if it’s because it “frames my face” better, but I just feel that I look older with straighter hair.
I’m sorry. The ladi who cut the curly haired woman’s hair, looks like a man in the face and had no right to say she had a long face. I wouldn’t even let her cut my hair. She could have achieve the same look without cutting layers heavy layers.
I have been wearing my hair natural since graduating from high school and going to college. Back in the day (high school 90’s) I spent tons of money killing my hair flat ironing it so I could look like SWV. When I went away to school it was very humid and muggy. Not like the Cali sunshine I was used to. Flat ironing and pressing was a complete waste of time. Plus, I didn’t have my parents there to foot the bill anymore. So I started wearing my hair in its natural curly state. I have learned to love my… Read more »
I didn’t think she had a long face. I would also have liked to see it curly with the cut. It was pretty both ways, but I love the curly hair more.
Not to be biased. But her face looked fine with curlier hair versus the straight. She has a face for it. She could have done an up do and it would have looked better than with the straight. Long faces are beautiful and there doesn’t have to be any framing to take away from the fact that the person has a long face. Her curly hair could have been styled to fit her face.
why do they always want to straighten our hair?!?!?!?
I think her hair looks good either way but they could have tried to have her curls frame her face. I dont think I heard them ask her how she normally wears her hair each day because they need to do a cut that can we born both ways. I dont like the fact that the go to for black women with curly hair is to straighten it….
yes exactly! i was gonna say the same thing. just because a black woman wears her hair curly doesn’t mean that shes automatically wants it to be straightened by someone else.
Both pictures looked nice, but this isn’t what she asked for. She said she wanted something different and I feel as if the stylist did the easiest thing. Straighten her hair. They could have done a wonderful up do or braided style, something DIFFERENT. Going from straight to curly or curly to straight isn’t different. It’s very common thing for a stylist to do. The stylist did the best thing for himself and the rating but not for her. It looks very nice, but it could have been a better experience for her.
*Oblong faced* and I LOOOVE curls. I think straight hair makes my face look more elongated.
