Rahkua // Natural Hair Style Icon

Avatar • Jun 4, 2010

I found an interview with Rahkua, an aspiring actress, on Nikki and the City yesterday and was amazed! First of all, the girl is just gorgeous. Second of all, this is the first time I’ve seen a natural rock booth loose and locked hair!

I love this quote from the interview:

I’ve had locs all my life. My parents have them. My four younger siblings have them… It is a real burden to bear sometimes because of the low acceptance level of them among the African American community who have been striving for the “fried, dyed, and laid to the side” look of straightened hair for centuries… You have to have a strong resolve and connection with yourself and with God in order not to be swayed by the mainstream.”

Wow she is so striking, and the fro/locs are very unique and daring. Kudos for that.

I’m really digging the locked and loose look. I’ve been torn between locking and staying loose … This gives me some ideas. 🙂

She and her hair are gorgeous! Best wishes on her career aspirations! Off to read more.

Never seen hair in this style before but it allows her control over her style day to day and more options. I would love to know why she decided to do that.

Just an aside — The second pic may be a bit nsfw/nsfpwk (not safe for work/npt safe for people with kids). Like the hair in it though.

Brilliance! Brilliance I tell you. Why didn’t I think of this sooner?! ha. Usually, I’m not a biter, but this might require some biteration. Ha!

I liked your interview. You are beautiful. And congrats/all the best in ALL your endeavors! You rock!!

I Actually Did This Myself When I Had Locks I Eventually Had Some Loose Hair From An Experiment To See If I Could Comb It Out.I Decided Years Ago If I Ever Grow My Locks Again I Would Wear About Half My Hair Locked And Half Loose Just Because My Hair Was So Massive And Heavy When It Was Wet. It Looks Great On Her!!!

I couldn’t believe it when i saw this interview. Rakhua and I went to the same school and she was really good friends with my cousin. Her family is amazing, they are all so talented and beautiful!

I’m glad to see she is pursuing her dreams. Keep up the good work girly!
