“I soooo love ur website! I think that many people would benefit from finding out where to get products like honey, honeyquat, oils (castor, coconut, avocado, olive, sunflower, etc.), wheat germ, glycogen, the humectants, shea butter, aloe vera, botanical extracts, no-poo/co-wash products etc.”
Alright ladies, spill it! Where do you find your hair products? Which grocery/health food/beauty supply chains are the best to hit up? Do you go to the health food store on the corner? Does your auntie from Trinidad hook you up with that shea butter? What websites carry the products you love? Let em know!
I like Trader Joe’s but Whole Foods has a wayy wider selection. Those are the best I’ve encountered as far as chain grocery stores go. In New Haven, a store called Edge of the Woods has all I’ll ever need. Love them!
I buy my natural hair products from http://www.coastalscents.com, http://www.essentialwholesale.com, http://www.butters-n-bars.com and my local whole foods store.
Love the products from either websites and all certified organic!
Whole Foods, Cornucopia (a small local organic grocer which has EVERYTHING), or the organic section of any local grocery store.
Whole Foods, Walmart, the local farmers market, and street vendors at cultural festivals.
I have ordered Shea and Henna from http://www.butters-n-bars.com/ but so far that is the only online vendor I have used.
http://www.anitagrant.com
I live in a small town so I go to two locally owned health food stores to buy Coconut Oil (in the food aisle), Aloe Vera, Glycerin, Shea Butter, various oils, Aubrey Organics, Giovanni, and other organic brands. When I’m in the city I’ll stop at Whole Foods for Kinky Curly brand products. We also have a Sally Beauty Supply that I get Cream of Nature shampoo and satin hair bonnets at.
Jamilah Shakir also has a facebook page. Her products moisturize and strengthen very well and are all natural.

since i live in the pacific north west, there are natural product everywhere, but i mainly shop at my local co-op,whole foods, and where ever else i can find what i need the cheapest, oh i also bought my shea butter from an African import store.
On this site, you can find butters (shea, cocoa, etc…) oils, and more. They are organic.
http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/
target has giovanni and dr. bronner’s castile soaps. whole foods is my fav cuz its a one stop shop (jane carters, kinky curly’s, aubrey’s and a plethora of eo’s and oils). im also an online shopper so butters-n-bars is sufficient and affordable; qhemet’s and afroveda’s around the holidays (for sales)and my shea’s, coconut oil and hair butter from http://www.subtle-essence.com/ they have THE BEST BODY SCRUBS EVER!!
This is a great post! I’m tend to be little skeptical about online stores, so this really helps! Whole Foods has great selection of products, including Kinky-Curly, Giovanni, Aubrey Organics, Nature’s Gate and more natural hair colors. I also go to a Seventh-Day Adventist book/health store near my house for butters and oils, glycerin, etc. Any SDA health store would probably have a selection of natural products. It was product heaven when I first went natural!! I also go to Target for Giovanni and Yes to Carrots, and then there’s online of course. Oh! And Oyin Handmade is in Baltimore,… Read more »
wow I AM FROM BALTIMORE AND I AM SHORT NATURAL HAIR CUT NOW AND I AM ALSO SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST I LIVE IN TX SINCE 1988 NICE TO READ ABOUT THE HAIR INFORMATION BE BLESS
I buy stuff from everywhere, I buy conditioners and styling creams, and even honey from drugstores like CVS or Walgreens. I buy coconut oil (and Giovanni products) from Whole Foods and Jewel’s grocery store. I have to have Carol’s Daughter’s products which I usually purchase from either Macy’s or Sephora. Other things like Ojon’s conditioners, and other products I get from Sephora. The only thing I have yet to see is shea butter, which I’ll probably order online when I get around to it.
Local health food stores for oils(coconut, avocado and olive). Then there’s the natural hair care lines like Qhemet, Afroveda, Karen’s Body Beautiful & Oyin.
The Vitamin Shoppe. I’ve purchased betonite clay, unrefined coconut oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, the Aubrey Organics line etc., Castille soap. etc They have other natural hair products, too.
I purchase my items at local African, Indian and wholefood stores
Whole foods has a great variety. Also check out your local health and vitamin stores. I go to a family owned store by house and they have just about everything I need.
I usually go to Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, any local organic food store, online, or my local independent beauty boutiques (ie. Karen’s Body Beautiful. If I need a protein treatment I’ll hit up the regular beauty supply. I only go to beauty supply stores now for actual supplies; such as hair pins, clips, ponytail holders, rollers but not for actual products anymore.

i don’t know about that shea but trinidad hooks me up with the pure, murky, unrefined awesome virgin coconut oil! trinidad coconut growers association (CGA) presses oil like it’s nobody’s business. anyhoo, my mummy brings me a big bottle from the pharmacy home for less that the equivalent of 3 US and it lasts forever. i also ask her to bring me some castor oil, some of that raw cocoa butter in blocks [few packs] and i handle my stories. the shea i have came from new york on the parkway labor day weekend for 5 dollars, [same size selling… Read more »

UK —
Sheabuttercottage.co.uk — has Jamaican black castor oil, Many other oils and butter including my NBF, Shea. I no longer use Qhemet Biologics due to availability. We don’t have as much choice as you US based ladies. I wish we did.
I use Phytospecific’s Shampoo and their Intensive mask as a conditioner. I do a deep conditioner once a week with Ojon’s Restorative hair treatment once a week. But these products arent exactly what I would call “cheap” luckily I work at Sephora where all these products are sold, but I’m looking to change up the products. I plan on keeping the Restorative treatment in my hair regimen (it is AMAZING!!!!!!!! every 1.5 weeks I put this in my hair, leave it in for an hour of two, rinse then shampoo and condition) but I have looking for a new shampoo,… Read more »
My sister and I recently found out that GNC sells Coconut Oil and Apple Cider Vinegar.
I go to any supermarket to get the cheapest, largest bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil I can find (you just have to check that it’s 100% Olive Oil).
Shea Butter is everywhere here in Brooklyn: Health Food Stores; from vendors along Flatbush Avenue; at Flea Markets in West Indian Neighborhoods.
Luckyvitamin.com has a lot of ingredients for the low low that I use.
Lowkey…Target sells the burts bee’s brazil nut and rasberry shampoo for $1.89! I dunnno WHY! I’ve been to two stores and it was the same price…I don’t think they know or how long this will last but go GET it. I also got a Giovanni Shampoo and Conditioner gift pack there for $5 (Triple Tea Tree Threat)
Hi everyone, I am new to this site, I use Carol’s Daughter, to date that seems to be the only thing that agrees with my hair. I can comb through my hair when its wet, and there are hardly any tangles. I am so glad that I made the decision 3 years ago to be natural and refuse to put that “poison” in my head ever again. Can anyone recommend something comparable or better that is not as expensive?

THANKS EVERYONE FOR REPLYING!!! U’VE HELPED ME OUT GREATLY!
I shop at a lot of different places online and locally. I am working towards only shopping with black-owned/African-owned or environmentally conscious sellers (with reasonable rates, of course) for most oils, butters and additives, i go to http://www.oilsbynature.com http://www.lotioncrafters.com http://www.chemistry.com http://www.essentialwholesale.com http://www.etsy.com — lots of sellers have good deals 🙂 http://www.ebay.com http://www.the-sage.com http://www.butters-n-bars.com my local co-op grocery also has a lot of basic oils in bulk too.. for my indian stuff, i have a friend that travels to India several times a year. I also may order locally.. for name brand things, I tend to go to http://www.vitaminshoppe.com http://www.vitacost.com http://www.iherb.com (use my code *OLI158* and… Read more »

I do not even understand how I stopped up right here, however I thought this publish was once great. I do not recognise who you are but certainly you are going to a well-known blogger for those who are not already. Cheers!
That is a pretty interesting read actually, glad you decided to share.
I buy my organic oils at a health food store or my local Herbal store. I usually get my products from beauty supply stores.
